Coming from NZ & Australia for this show, assuming we get tickets.

Seems like limited hotel options near the venue, any locals able to give some suggestions with regards to public transport, where to stay?  TIA

Hoping to be at this show also. Driving in from 4 hours away. Unfortunately the US is awful for public transit outside of large cities. I would think that your best bet is to rent a car. There looks to be a lot of hotels within 15 or 20 miles towards downtown Indianapolis. Maybe someone from the area would know better though.

As a noblesville resident, I can tell you there is zero public transportation. Noblesville is 35-40 minutes outside of downtown Indianapolis. Uber or Lyft are probably your best bet. There are hotels within walking distance of Ruoff I’d recommend

  • There’s a handful of hotels, bars/restaurants (some are even good) around I-69 and campus parkway, and if I were from out of town I would feel comfortable walking  from there. You certainly can’t drive from there any faster than walking, that’s for sure. There are also a few campgrounds around the area (Ruoff was once known as Deer Creek and was a favorite stop for Dead Heads back in the day, DMB and Phish still play multiple shows here regularly). Screen shot of nearby commercial area attached.

  • Don’t stay in the Castleton area, which is close but crap. If you can’t find a room around campus parkway (and I would consider all those hotels interchangeable, cheapish business travel joints),  stay in Fishers, Noblesville, Carmel, or Westfield. There are good, nice hotels in Carmel and downtown Indy. The bands usually stay downtown which is a bit of a drive as Kwieneke notes.

There are a few hotels around 17960 Foundation Dr, Noblesville that appear to have availability. Not too far away.

Just be prepared to either sit in the parking lot for an hour of so after the show or park at the mall and walk there after the show. It takes awhile to get out of the place. I hate to admit that we generally bail when we think the last song is starting so that we don't have to sit there forever.

And yeah....no public transit. Uber/Lyft your best bet if you aren't driving. The venue does have a decent Uber/Lyft area where you can line up and get a ride after the show.

Haven't been to "Deer Creek" in over 20 years since I last lived there, but is concert traffic still horrendous?

Scratch that, hit PJ in 2010 as a non-resident. Is traffic still a nightmare? Are the backroads still viable? Used to have a killer backroad shortcut that was lightly traveled and spit you out like right at the entrance, but I'm guessing that shortcut has been nullified over the years.

Living in Indiana, can tell you there is 0 public transit to Deer Creek. Uber, Lyft, yes, but would recommend renting a car if that's too crazy for you, living in Australia and everything.

There aren't really any magic routes in and out anymore, unfortunately. I live like two towns over and even I dread the traffic when I have to head that way.

I would say that it's better in that they direct traffic out pretty well and let you blow through intersections via traffic officers, etc, but they will sometimes force you in a direction that requires you to re-route and head back the other direction at some point.

But....if you just plan on chilling after the show for an hour or so and let traffic move you'll drive right out and not stress. Just plan for it. There are port-o-shits in the parking lots.

I live in Fishers, 5 minutes from the venue. The closest hotel is going to be Embassy Suites in Noblesville. It is a half mile or less from the venue.  The next best options would be the Hyatt House Hyatt Place or the Courtyard by Marriott in Fishers across from Topgolf.  One exit away from the venue.

I live about an hour away and it always takes me about 2 to get home after a show.
The problem is 20 years ago, this was a concert venue in the middle of a cornfield, now there's a massive shopping area and lots of people all around it that slows the process down.

20 years ago it was still extremely slow even when it was only a cornfield because of the single road in. It's never taken me as long to get TO a concert as that 2000 show.

There are more roads in/out than there used to be but traffic will still be a mess and depending what parking lot you are in you may get directed out the opposite way you want to go after the show.

If you are up for a little bit of a walk after the show, there are 3 hotels nearby on Tegler Dr that you could walk to and not have to deal with driving/traffic.  There are also campgrounds if you're into that sort of thing.

We usually just pack water & snacks in the car for afterwards and wait out the shitshow in the parking lot.

Ah, well next best bet would probably be the ones at the 116th St exit.  Could check out Sun King brewery or Topgolf if you wanted something to do around there and Uber/Lyft to the show.

Plenty of rooms in the Fishers area it looks like. Hoping to try out Top Golf for the first time as well as we don’t have any yet here in the Northeast.

Get a reservation...not sure how long they book out but get it in advance if you want to ensure you get in there.

Is VIP parking still worth it? I don’t think I have been to Noblesville since 2010, but the last couple times in that era it was worth it. I drove straight out of the parking lot with no wait. I don’t remember all the commercial stuff across the street before though.

yes...they might force you to go north though as the Uber pickup is right by the VIP exit

Not that that is a huge deal

  • I agree with above comments, don’t choose hotels near I-69 and 86th (Castleton), choose instead options in Fishers.  Hyatt Place on Ikea Way in Fishers would be a great option if staying more than one night as there’s several restaurants/bars in walking distance.

If looking for something trendy but not all the way downtown Indy, I’d recommend Ironworks Hotel on E 86th St in the Keystone area, a bit further drive though.

Stay somewhere else in Noblesville (Super 8/Baymont) at your own risk. They aren't known for being the nicest but not dangerous or anything. Otherwise look in Fishers at 116th Street or 96th Street. Carmel and Westfield will also work but you will be a decent distance.

I currently have a room booked at Keystone Crossing which Im okay with being a little further away from the venue. I did see a Comfort Inn though in Fishers right off I-69 for about the same price which seems to be a little closer. Is it worth to switch it over to the Fishers hotel?

I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with and how much time you have. You can kill some time at the Fashion Mall at Keystone, if you want. There are some better restaurant options in that area as well. That Comfort Inn in Fishers is closer, so if you're just looking to get back to your hotel sooner after the concert, that might be your best bet. There are some restaurants within walking distance of that hotel also. That 96th street/69 area can get busy at times but shouldn't be too bad on a Sunday.

Thanks for the reply! Will be coming into town on Saturday and meeting some friends I have in the area and planning for the Indianapolis Indians game that night. Shouldnt have an issue with a few extra minutes across the weekend but might make that switch to the Fishers hotel since it might mean getting back to the hotel quicker after the show. Either option seems okay though based on your response
