The greatest version of Parting Ways EVER! PJ should use violins more often...

This just came up while I was listening to my iPod on shuffle:

It's from Eddie's solo set at UCLA on 3/15/02. I'm sure I had heard it before, but for some reason it's beauty really struck me this time. The violins play such a prominent part of the performance that it really makes the song 100 times more powerful. If I remember correctly, the violins on the track are played by a young kid Eddie had met while surfing (or so the story goes).

Anyway, I think PJ should integrate the violin into their softer tracks more often. There's nothing prettier than the sound of a violin. :)

I was at the show, it was totally amazing. An early showing of a lot of the uke songs that Eddie played on his solo tour. The violin kid was definitely some kid that he had met earlier in the week surfing...talk about being in the right place at the right time. He also played "Longing to Belong" with him...

EDIT: Found a pic of them playing Longing to Belong together...Ed rockin' the mohawk...

I've become really addicted to all versions of this song.

7 Worlds Collide with the Finns is awesome (buy it on iTunes), but solo from Chicago Solo #1 this past August is really, really awesome. The guitar he used is unlike any other recording I've heard.

Totally agree. I search out this song--if it's on a boot, I buy it. The Benroya is probably my favorite (do love the one in this post though), just because the sound is perfect.

The only problem with Benaroya -- like so many songs from that boot -- is that Ed flubs the lyrics.

For some reason I just can't consider any song version my favorite if the lyrics are messed up. :(
