    It really is amazing that such statements don't matter. I don't think it helps his support but it doesn't seem to hurt it, either.

    I certainly remember when Americans, particularly hard-core conservatives, would not have taken stuff like that lightly, regardless of the party the politician belonged to. Exhibit 17 showing that it's a cult.

    Good for you.  I tried to take this approach years ago but didn't last too long. Fox News makes my brain go haywire, but it is a good primer for when my red family/friends try talking politics with me.
