“What is going on in this country is absolutely disgraceful. If you want to run for president, you’ve got to make your case to voters. ... The idea of selecting the Democrat Party’s nominee because George Soros and Barack Obama and a couple of elite Democrats got in a smoke-filled room and decided to throw Joe Biden overboard — that is not how it works.”
Aside from the gaslighting involved here that I alluded to in my prior post-- Republicans care about the importance of every vote all of a sudden?-- this is so transparently ridiculous on multiple levels. First, note the completely superfluous George Soros reference. I guess he forgot to work in Jewish space lasers to really hammer home the point. Second, parties get to choose their nominees. That is, in fact, how it works. That is how it has always worked, for as long as there have been political parties in this country. Primaries and caucuses had no more than a nominal effect on the process until relatively late in the 20th century.
But there's also a seemingly very small thing in this quote that speaks volumes. It's when U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, a graduate of Yale Law School, the most selective and prestigious school of its kind in this country, uses the phrase "Democrat Party" when he knows damned well that it is the Democratic Party. This is a Frank Luntz thing, like calling the estate tax the "death tax," where Republicans refuse to use the word Democratic to refer to the opposing party because they don't want to imply that the Democrats are actually small-d democratic (which is even dumber given that Republicans are constantly shouting about how the U.S. is not a democracy, but a constitutional republic, because they need to gloss over the fact that two recent Republicans were elected president without getting a plurality of the total votes cast). And because the Republicans are remarkably disciplined and consistent about being on message, no matter how much it contradicts what they said yesterday (see the flip-flip on the importance of votes, see the flip-flop from Merrick Garland to Amy Coney Barrett, etc.), they all say "Democrat Party" because they all got the memo and they are all completely shameless. But here's the thing: every time a Republican says "Democrat Party," they are lying to your face, because they all know it's the Democratic Party, but they say "Democrat Party" anyway. And if they'll lie about the smallest of things, you can be sure they'll lie about the big things.

Have you ever seen the "Obama in college" skit on Key and Peele? So friggin' great.
Has anyone seen POOTWH? Is he still alive? Made any public appearances or done anything other than social media? It could be anyone on social media. How do we know it’s POOTWH? Anyone seen him DJ’ing? Riding a golf cart? His mug needs to be on a milk carton.

True dat. I don’t know if Eddie quit cigs but it’s been a while since I’ve seen him smoke on stage during Mike’s evenflow solo. Maybe he’s just more discrete and goes off stage out of site? But bong hits, vino and tequila shots will take its toll. As will pushing 60 and using your voice for as long as he has. Ever see Bob Dylan live in the last 20 years? Yikes.
There's detailed discussion of this on the aforementioned threads but, saving you the time: yes, Eddie still smokes cigarettes.
The thing I was referencing in response to your Obama mention was that, in every one of the aforementioned threads, when someone mentions that maybe Ed is susceptible to respiratory infections because he smokes, someone always replies, "I thought Eddie quit smoking?," followed by replies providing a litany of evidence that he still smokes.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. I wonder if Obama has still quit.
If he has, maybe we need to get Michelle to lean on Eddie to quit.
J.D. Vance has said a lot of dumb, offensive things, but the "childless cat lady" thing somehow might be the worst of them all. The idea that having cats makes you less invested in the future is absurd. I'm heavily invested in ensuring a safe, happy future for all cats, and I will fight J.D. Vance if he so much as looks funny at anyone's cat.

Harrison Butker actually said that his wife's life "truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and mother." So women's lives begin at marriage, but life begins at conception. Makes perfect sense.

I’m one of the last of the boomers generation and I’m furious over this kind of mouth diarrhea. Maybe she couldn’t get pregnant. Wtf is wrong with these men? And any woman under the age of 65 who doesn’t vote for Harris, well, I can’t post what I think.
You don’t have to believe in abortion to believe in the freedom of choice. Even god gave us free will. Get past your personal feelings about abortion because if females aren’t careful it will be the last time we vote.

Don't underestimate how much this resonates with the right and how much they'll try to do to stop/vilify childlessness. Women are to serve Jesus, their husbands, and their children. Any joy that comes from that is by chance.
What can they actually do to make sure this happens? We'll see...they'll get creative. Anyway, Vance saying that isn't just because he's an asshole; it's a peek into what's going to drive him as president in 2029.

They will do so at their own peril as they're strategy of winning by running up the numbers of their base base has been scraped in favor of the good ol' moderate suburbanites who will reject this nonsense like we have pretty consistently since 2018.

When I watched the Handmaiden's Tale, I saw it as a precautionary statement and warning, some of these people see it as a How To manual.

I don't underestimate them. I think people may be missing my point, which is that as ardently pro-woman and pro-women's rights as I am, I am even more zealously pro-cat. If J.D. Vance threatens women's rights, I will march, I will organize, I will protest, I will boycott and I will vote. If J.D. As one of the few posters around here who actually possesses a uterus, I have two things to say:
1) I'd argue that Vance's comment about how women should stay in abusive marriages is much worse -- and I like cats!
2) There are multiple possible explanations for why Kamala Harris doesn't have biological children, and none of them are anyone's damn business. People need to disabuse themselves of the notion that they ought to be privy to the status of women's uteri and vaginas.

All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
Imagine trashing a woman who has never given birth and has two (I think) stepchildren while praising someone who has children with three different women with which his relations/marriages overlap.
