Deluxe editions boxset books - what do you prefer?

When it comes to sections/chapters/elements. What do you prefer to read and look at, when you open one of these books (or booklet). And is it something you are drawn to in general, or don't care about?

Be it the KISS Creatures of the Night boxset book, or one of the Beatles ones. Etc.

I generally go back to books that have a short writeup of the artist/album/era/etc. but is a majority of pictures. I cant concentrate on the record and reading at the same time. So the shorter the writeup the better.

I don't care for bulky deluxe boxsets with bells and whistles like books and a bunch of other crap in them. I really just want the vinyl. But if for some reason I have to get one, I prefer a book with lots of words in them. I want stories from the band and stuff - new knowledge and a good read - rather than a lot of pictures.

I generally find them a waist of paper because of the way the text is presented.  A couple of the most (to me) vexing example are white text on black background, and text printed over artwork or photographs making it difficult to read.
I much prefer some intelligently written liner notes on the back of an album.  A lot of blues records and some jazz records do a nice job of this.  The Chicago/The Blues/Today series is a good example:

"Pretty cookies, heart squares all around, yeah!"
    -Eddie Vedder, "Smile"

"Try to not spook the horse."

My Sloan Navy Blues deluxe box is one of my faves. it has band member memories and stories from the entire time period, during recording, and touring, etc. it's quite the interesting read.
