another successful DIY project (vox in a box)

an OLC english channel pedal. basically, a vox AC30 distilled into a pedal using JFETs instead of tubes. first time i've ever had to bias a pedal.

hard to keep this one neat inside. due to the nature of the board and the amount of stuff going on. wish they'd provided better jacks but other than that, pretty happy for $70.

sounded great in a functional test through the POD. will run it through real amps this weekend. everything works perfectly though.

i made the overlay graphic myself. not too original given the theme of the pedal.

That's really great - Are you gonna post some sound clips (through an amp)???

ok, yes, it's confirmed awesome. i'm really happy with it.

it does exactly what i wanted it to which is perfect articulate light overdrive leaving the box of rock to do the heavy marshally stuff. this pedal can go heavier too though cranked the gain results it a little mud. lots of juice in the master volume to push the amp though.

definitely voxy without some of the EL84 characteristic gravelly grind. it ends up sounding fairly smooth pushing through 6V6s but still has the nice high end texture.

i'm going to build more of these OLC amp in a box things i think. they make tons of them in kit form. just need to replace a couple parts to make it a little more build friendly. i've tidied up the wiring a bit more in this one with ties.

thinking a matchbox and an umble for sure. maybe more.

definately try the fender 5F2 circuit or the supro. Biased hot the fender circuit sounds like it's about to explode. It does the Neil Young thing quite well. Eric did some of his own designs with Jfets I was testing for him with a few different settings and switches for bass roll off and bias. They aren't exactly the same but I tend to believe the BJF stuff uses JFET's in some manner.

They should sound outstanding especially with the Casino.

Does the cut control take the edge off a bit?

yup. basically a presence control. i'm finding i roll the treble itself back slightly and then have the cut at about noon. it's quite subtle. the results are not harsh at all, though you can dial that in easily if you want it.
