that lefty that my pusher... i mean friend at the shop.... order for me (on spec) arrived.

oh
my
god

the lightest, most resonant thing i've ever played. i literally felt stupid playing it.

lighter than the righty av52, nocaster and hot rod 52 they had in stock.

beautiful.

so it's on lay away while i think about it and soul search and see what i can let go of guitar wise.

i felt so dumb playing it. my hands were shaking.

  • so is your's (soon to be your's, i guess) a regular 52?? I love 'em and would definitely consider buying one, but the neck p'up is so dark and bassy, i wonder if i would get any use out of it. Your thoughts?? I know that the middle position is dead on perfect for me, and the bridge is so damn spanky. The tele i use now sucks in the middle, but rocks out more on the bridge, and is more "piano tone" on the neck, my way of thinking about it.

    I found a hot rod 52 at a shop, with the mini-hum.

    I like it. Alot.

    heh....

i've bought a bunch of pedals from this shop recently, and every time, i pick up the same hr 52, and plug into the same Z Maz 18 (that's what i'm playing thru at home, so i try to use a little logic here, instead of just playing thru the coolest amp in front of me).

good luck. It must be good to only have one pusher. i have so many .. .. .. . .

    aaron
  • That's the wiring, not the pickup. In the front position, it's a "bass" setting, presumably for bands who didn't have an electric bass. That's how they were wired in '52, so that's how they wire the reissues. They come with a modern wiring kit so you can make them sound more like the new ones.

yeah, it's the regular 52. he actually ordered it after i was drooling over the mini hum hot rod version. of course, it doesn't come lefty.

and, as biff said, it's just the wiring. front is the neck with all the tone rolled off. middle is neck with tone control, back is bridge.

a quick wiring change makes it modern style.

still don't know if i'll buy it. i don't think i can let go of anything.

    hey thanks!!

All the many times i've had this same talk with guitar store employees, and no one ever had any clue about that. Stupid GC employees!! Learn your product!!

How many guitars do you have, Ex? I think i remember you having a sunburst strat.... and a ric?? or am i getting confused? Just get it. tell your pusher guy you'll pay him 10 a week. for the next 2 and a half years. :)

the pickup wiring fooled me the first time i tried one a couple years ago.

i have too many guitars. if i go with this one, i think my mustang's going to have to go. but it's quirky and has a certain sound. i don't want to let go of anything. i guess we'll see how long they let me lay it away.

but if anything goes, it'll be the mustang and my reverb unit (again). being the least used guitar and most heinously extravagant effect.

plus my OCD and envelope pedals and maybe a memory man.

i mean, it's just a tele. i have an old american standard and i'm happy with it. but this 52 makes it look like post k-fed britney. there's some sort of spinal tap thing going on.
  • Hey ex, if you get down to unloading your OCD, I might take you up on it.

well, it's about 75% that i'm going to keep it. hopefully my mustang meets reserve, that'll make it easier.

i brought it home for a while since i have 30 days anyway.

i guess i'll know for sure when i pull the plastic off and rewire it.

the big neck is awesome. maybe the most confortable i have along with my casino.

and the weight. 6lbs 9oz. a almost two less than my other tele and my strat and about the same as my SG.

the other option, though not as sexy, is a new fatback neck from warmoth or wherever.

the frets on my current tele are pretty much shot anyway so after a refret, it's not much of a stretch to just get a new neck with a profile i like better. i used to like the shallow C but these days, everything i play has relatively fat necks.
