and not replace my acoustic i-beam pickup, please recommend a replacement. i want an active pickup with no onboard EQ or anything. just the PUP and the endpin.
fishman acoustic matrix is being looked at as one option.

I prefer fishman everything but I have no experience with any others.

and no one bother saying "rare earth" b/c, with the way it mounts, i'd beat the shit out of it and my hand.

yeah. I meant like a outboard prefix. Some kind of internal mic. Your guitar is not one you want to mount a P/U on.

Fishman blender. Bar none, the best system for realistic, non-invasive acoustic pickups.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

which one exactly? this the one that mounts in the sound hole with a mic attached that extends into the body?

Has a piezo in the bridge and a mic mounted in the body. Endpin jack. Non-invasive, permanent mount. A friend of a friend of mine has one, I could find out more if you really need to know...

  • exhaustedexhausted Posts: 6,638

It is sort of an awkward piece to use...

    But such great sound.

Get an old Martin D-18E, be like Kurt.

one year warranty only. oh well.

so off it goes to baggs for repair or time of death declaration. $30US fee. not too bad i guess. if it's anymore, i'll just buy something new.

    thank you. i appreciate that.

yeah, $30 is better than $110 for a new one. assuming it can be fixed. otherwise, off to ebay i go. they're too expensive here.

yeah, if not i can get a new one off ebay for 105 which is about 2/3 what they cost here. and the guitar's already drilled (endpin) so i can mount it myself.

i may get another one anyway on spec (while the canuckistan peso is high) for when i order the 314 next year.

that sounds like a plan. Being the Scotsman I am I'd say fuck it and use the condenser for everything untill I actually needed the P/U live.

Quite true. How well do octaver's track? Does it really sound cool?

it doesn't track anything but a single note. and has to be in the front of the chain. any distortion in front of it and it's at a loss. it will lose tracking on the low E and F as well. but it makes a cool synth sound at that point. chords are just mush.

if you dime the direct signal and just mix in a bit of the 1 and 2 down octaves and put it in front of a nasty distortion, it's instant neil young.

alas, i don't use it and i'm sick of looking at things lying around so off it goes. too bad too. it's the original japanese one.

i have my old digitech processor around for all the weird whammy, pitchshifter stuff if i really needed it anyway. i just have to build a true bypass box for it.

i would guess you're not after synth like octave doubling then. if you just wanted bottom end it's not the way to go. the first solo on ghost is an octaver.

I kind of dig that too though. I like the Whammy for it better though because you can choose the intervals.

yeah, i agree. the WH1-5 (i think they're at 5 now) are much more versatile.

I got the idea from the pitch shifter in my boss. It sounds good but only on single notes and the pitch tracking is off. If I could get it dead on, I'd no longer need a bass to record.

The Fatsound website has a Lanilei reverb for 125. and a clone chorus for 165. Hmm. If Christmas wasn't next month and I new I'd be blowing some money I'd buy that reverb.

i think it would do a passable job anyway. i know in my RP10 you can dial out all the dry signal and just have the octave down but it wasn't going to fool anyone into thinking it was a bass. however, if you just wanted low frequencies and liked that it sounded like a bass from space, then perfect.

it is kind of a unique sound isn't it. I bet a baritone could fool people.
