i put one on hold this afternoon when i picked the PA for our wedding. oops. hella cheap though but it felt solid.
i'll have to try it out plugged in next friday when we get back. it's one of the left-handed red ones. sounded better unplugged than the sheraton II i used to have and the neck felt way better. grover tuners too.
just would have to put some seymour duncan humbuckers in it.

The biggest problem with them originally is the string size. Slap some 11's on it and it gets nice thick and lovely quick.
PW. I'm with you I like the rivieras too.
Epi/Gibson guitars have one other problem: They are almost NEVER sold properly set up, right out of the box. Take some time (or have someone spend time) setting that thing up PROPERLY before putting any real time on it. My biggest beef is the nut... they don't put anywhere near the attention into machining the nut grooves on those things. Graphite saddles are an additional consideration, too...
if i buy, it will be set up for free with a new bone nut and 11s. all my guitars go to 11s right away.
That's the way to go...
The big problem Gibson-style guitars have is that radical angle at the nut where the string turns from the neck to the tuning machine. Fenders, Gibson DC's, PRS, etc. all have their heads designed to keep the string straight (or relatively close) at the nut. But with that angle, if the nut isn't cut right and smoothed off, that thing will pop strings left and right. Not to mention catching the string, sending it horribly out of tune whenever you do any bends.
You can get that nut lube (boy, that sounds bad) to keep strings sliding free in their grooves, but it's a lot better to just have the damn thing work to begin with.
So, what kinda pups you eying for the project?
but it'll have to wait cuz i'm getting hitched in 16 hours!!!
wooooooooooooo
there she blows.
sorry for the shitty picture. it's a beautiful red though.
i've already got the 11s one. i still have to replace the nut. the pickups honestly sound pretty good right now but i'll have to live with the guitar for a while to see for sure.
and the korg sp300 my parents bought us as a wedding gift. it's in my studio until the stand arrives and it moves upstairs.

I like it. cool. Nice keyboard too. Is that a wine rack the Keyboard is sitting on.......novel concept. Everything you need right there.
The Epi is pretty sweet... I'd love to know what pups those things ship with. Any info available on that? It looks good, even if it is backwards.
The keyboard is sweet, too. 88-key? Weighted keys? Does it have many built-in sounds? Is it expandable? Sorry, I'm a geek. Korg is the name to have in keyboards, for sure... does it record well?
So... how's the ol' ball-and-chain? Congrats...
the keyboard is full 88 key weighted. it records ok. i'm just starting that process. not really expandable like an alesis Q88 or something but it's got enough onboard to keep me happy. it has midi function too though i'll never use it. it is sitting on a wine rack/kitchen surface thingy until the stand arrives. i ordered a two-tier to hold both this and my old yamaha piece of crap.
edit: keys are fucking hard to play. i'd forgotten how tough this is. sadly, my recordings are only going to have rudimentary piano parts. i don't think i can do much more right now.
