I remember an absent poet

Lingering over an early morning vision

coffee cup still warm

I woke to the truth that I trust you

I don’t need some souvenir in a drawer to remember you

And you don’t need one to recognize me either

And love doesn’t always have to burn out

No

it can renew itself

certainly it changes

tomorrow unknowable

Kaleidoscope-rolling:

pieces tumbling to look more red today

more blue another day

green, gold, yellow the next

could be that companion survivors

these are our trusted people
