The word "relevant" should always take a qualifier. Nothing is relevant in the abstract. A thing must be relevant to something or to someone. Pearl Jam is relevant to its audience. Post Malone is relevant to his audience, which is larger than Pearl Jam's in 2022. Will his audience be larger than Pearl Jam's when he's thirty years in? Time will tell. And some people are part of the audience of both Post Malone and Pearl Jam. Their audiences are not mutually exclusive.
To recap: you lectured through a philosophical wormhole about what it means to hold relevancy because Post Malone spent 3 minutes doing a free-wheeling Pearl Jam cover.
Huh? I wasn't criticizing Post Malone at all, nor was I commenting on the quality of his "Better Man" cover, which I haven't even listened to yet. I was commenting on posters' use of the term "relevance" without anchoring it to anything.
I thought the cover was a good effort, he did a good job.
He's obviosuly a massive fan of my 2 favourite bands, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. His Nirvana covers he did duiring the lockdown are exceptional IMO.
2006: Leeds; 2012: Manchester 1; 2014: Leeds; 2017: London 1 (EV); 2018: Amsterdam 1, London 1, London 2; 2019: Amsterdam 1 (EV), Dublin (EV); 2022: Berlin, London 1, London 2, Budapest, Krakow, Amsterdam 1, Amsterdam 2; 2023: Chicago 1, Chicago 2; 2024: Manchester, London
I finally checked this out and thought it was a solid cover. It was raw, felt genuine, and was delivered with emotion. It stayed true to the original without feeling like a karaoke performance. What more is there to execute?
Rarely is a cover better than the original. It wasn’t bad, not great either
off the top of my head DMB watchtower is probably the best cover. That’s because it’s a cover that they made their own. this one is basically the same song, just with a different singer
i like post malone a lot. Just think he can do much better with a PJ cover
Cool. Now was it good? I think it's easier to cover Nirvana than it is a Pearl Jam song.
I'm not any sort of musician, but I have heard a lot of comments that Nirvana had really easy tabs, riffs, etc.
Either way, it's incredible to realize (not just know, but fully realize) those guys were all approximately mid-20s when those 90s songs were written. Hell, considering Better Man was written *before* Pearl Jam, Eddie was probably still a teen.
Post Malone's version was well done. He did it justice.
False....great music can be made with easy riffs. Cobain was legit.
I didn't say anything about the music though...just that a lot of the tabs are supposedly simple/beginner, compared to what else is out there.
But yeah...the music is classic. I spun the crap out of Nirvana CDs in the early 90s.
I wonder what PJ would do with Tourette's or maybe an Eddie solo version of Something In The Way...just imagine Tourette's straight out of Lukin.

This is all I care about Better Man by Pearl Jam is #97 on iTunes Alternative songs chart. https://t.co/3RO0AxzApi
Updated. Not on there anymore. Maybe that'll change later, hopefully
Up to #77 now
#32
#16
I just realized that you're referencing the iTunes Alternative chart, not the overall chart. To put this in perspective, the #1 song on the iTunes Alternative chart (Halsey's "So Good") doesn't even rank among the top 100 on the overall chart. Being #16 on the iTunes Alternative chart does not reflect a significant amount of activity in the grand scheme of things.

Yea I know. But they're rarely there and that high. I wish it was the Hot 100
I didn't hate it, didn't love it either. Heard far worse PJ covers than this. His Nirvana "livestream" was fantastic I thought. Maybe if this wasn't acoustic? Some parts sounded autotuned or something weird like that.

I like Post. I dig some of his pop rap. The Nirvana covers were good. Beer Bongs and Bentleys was a really good record. That said, this cover was not good. Stay in your lane Posty.
I struggled to get through it, and found no enjoyment whatsoever in that. Not a hater, I barely know who the dude is, and I couldnt care less really, but that was terrible for me

This sums up my reaction; however, I didn't get through it.

So I guess I won't be hearing it on PJ Radio any time soon. Ha.
