ok, i'm sick of burning off my recorder to an (expensive) audio cd and then importing into my computer.

i'm dumping my harmon-kardon cd recorder and buying a new sound card for my computer than has a optical SPDIF input. that way i can mix directly from my recorder into sound forge (hopefully).

and hopefully get mixes that don't sound like total shit any more.

anyone have suggestions?

i was thinking this?

I'm no pro, but as far as I know, the Audigy series don't have good reputation when it comes to serious recording/mixing.

This forum should be a good resource for all your soundcard needs: http://forum.cubase.net/cgi-bin/cubase.net/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Hardware&number=5&DaysPrune=45&LastLogin=

These get very good reviews: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/creative-emu-1820/index.html

I own the Terratec DMX6Fire 24/96 with the external module. Good quality and versatility, but the drivers somehow suck.

thanks for the links. i'll have a read through there. i'm no where near up to date with computer hardware as far as recording goes. i've been using the same setup for a few years now but i'm losing so much frequency response that i've had it.

i plan on buying a whole new computer this fall but i'd like to have a sound card/input module that is separate in order to provide some flexibility since i'm looking at laptops for my studio computer.

and i just realized i'd need new software too since the version of soundforge i have is only 16bit too. this sucks.

Some additional research reading before you buy.

SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

thanks pure. those terratecs are starting to look good. i won't be buying until this fall anyway since i'm going to working onsite for august/september and hopefully making enough overtime to buy a whole new system.
