it's got 6L6GCs in it right now so it's pretty bassman-esque right now. which is fine by me. i haven't had much chance to play it (only got it this evening) but there's gold at around 12:30 on channel II. i like it. i'll give it a better run tomorrow afternoon.
until i get a chance to plug it into a cab instead of my deluxe's speaker, i won't be able to appreciate it fully. and once i can cut the attenuation to 16 or 8 dB instead of 25 or so like i have to now. cabinet will have a huge impact on the character as well
these plastic jacks are going to have to go at some point. and the control pots would be nice to ditch too, but i knew that going in. the 8ohm speaker jack was basically shattered so i had to swap it with the 16ohm jack. i'll replace the whole shooting match later on. apart from that one jack though, everything was as solid as possible.
it shined up pretty nice. apart from the speaker jack, it was accurately described. it's too bad for the guy that he didn't spent 30 minutes and some elbow grease to clean up the tolex and take better pictures. he would have probably sold it for $50+ more. i pulled the whole thing apart (had to anyway to fix the jack) and once i took some vinyl cleaner to the cabinet and (literally) blew the cobwebs out of the chassis, it looked 5 years newer. serial 23xx. no idea when it was made.
so even though i'll rarely get to open it up and truly let it shine, i think i'll enjoy it.

I have that Peavey 2x12" cab that I bought a couple months ago (thanks again for the heads-up, nailz!) that I want to load specifically for the Mig. I was thinking of a Peavey Sheffield in the sealed bottom and a Vintage 30 in the open top, but I've recently started thinking about going with Eminence. Swamp Thang in the bottom and Governor in the top.
Speaker and cab selection really does alter the sound dramatically with that amp. Alnico's sound really woody, and ceramics have a lot of punch (especially in a sealed cab). The only thing I'd suggest is don't use a sealed alnico, it's quite muddy.
When I re-tube, I'll take it to my tech and have him bias, check everything, and replace all the cheaper plastic jacks and switches. Mine are all intact, but I want the peace of mind.
I hear ya on the 12:30 spot... it starts to saturate really well right there, and just gets better after that.
i actually get a good tone (to me) out of the deluxe's speaker for recording. it'll do for now since i can't crank it and i have no band etc.
by the way, do you prefer channel I or II out of curiousity. i've read reviews from a few people that combine them with a Y. haven't tried it yet.
Someday I want to learn music talk.

You can always pick up a cheap Peavey cab with a Sheffield... I think that would fit the amp really well, it'd be easy on the pocketbook, and would tide you over. A nice Avatar down the road would be a good option as well.
You have a V30 in the Deluxe right now, right? Can't go wrong there.
I change channels depending on what I need. Ch 1 is really full and rich, but lacks a little definition, whereas Ch 2 is less muddy but also less powerful. I'd love to put an A-B-Y (probably a Morley) at the end of my pedalboard and switch between the two or combine them. It sucks you can't jumper them like a Bassman or Plexi (although a cheap Y cable from Radio Shack would do it). Generally, I've been using Ch 1, but lately I need a little more clarity at low volumes, so I'm using Ch 2. If you're familiar with a Bassman or Plexi or Bluesbreaker, you'll know what to expect out of each channel.
You take the cab and sell me the speaker, eh?
