Anyone interested in a Pearl Jam Super Bowl board?

I'm a big football fan, and it's always fun to place a friendly wager on the big game, so I'm hoping this will generate enough interest to actually happen.

Basically, my idea is this: a Super Bowl board (or pool, whatever you want to call it). The board is essentially a grid of numbers from 0-9. Each person chooses a Patriots number and a Giants number (for example, Patriots 7, Giants 2). If the final score for each team ends in your numbers (for example, Patriots 27-Giants 12, or Giants 42-Patriots 37, etc.), then you are the winner of the board.

To make this a Pearl Jam board, the cost of playing will not be money, but rather a Pearl Jam item. Right now I'm thinking each person will have to pledge a 2000 or 2003 official bootleg...although we can discuss this more if the idea has enough interest.

So, if you are the winner, every other participant will have to send you the Pearl Jam bootleg they pledged when they signed up. Potentially, that means that somebody could walk away from this with 99 new bootlegs to add to their collection!

I would probably restrict the game to members with 100+ posts just so we could be confident that the person could be relied upon to follow through if they lose; again, that can be discussed more later.

Anyhow, just to clarify, this thread is strictly to identify how many people are even interested in doing this. If you are, please post a reply -- and feel free to chime in with your ideas for the board.

Please do not claim numbers or pledge a bootleg yet...IF we have enough interest, I'll set a specific day/time when that will begin, in order to make it as fair as possible to everyone.

So we've got 5 so far (including myself)...I'm thinking I'll want at least 20 total to make it worthwhile (with 20, each person would get 5 squares on the board...we can adjust that depending on how many people actually sign up).

Okay...so far we have 13 people (including myself). I'd like to get up to 20; then, each person would have 5 spots on the board (it would still cost just one official boot to play). In that case, the winner would receive 19 official boots (it's not 99, but hey, still pretty cool!).

So...if we get up to 20 by Sunday evening, the game is on. If not, I'm going to cancel it.

Also, some people have said that they don't want to give up any of their official boots. What do you all think would be an acceptable alternative for those who want to play but can't, or don't want to, put in official boots?

I might be interested but don't you think the number selection should be done by random?

Face it, some numbers have a much higher probability of winning since football scores don't increment by 1's. I sure as heck wouldn't chose 9 and 2 but if that's what I draw I'd live with it.

If we do the numbers randomly count me in.

Yeah, that makes sense. We'll draw numbers randomly then. Good suggestion!

Just for fun, I'll make a point from experience, though: The fact that football scores don't go by increments of 1 actually make things MUCH more fair. In baseball, if you get certain numbers (9-9, 1-1, 0-0, etc.) you're basically screwed, because the games then have to end 19-9, 11-1, 10-0, or some other very rare score. In football, all numbers are relatively feasible...even 9 and 2 (I have seen plenty of field-goal heavy games finish 19-12, or shootouts 49-42, etc.).

Count me in then since we'll do it randomly. Good point about the scores in baseball not being as likely with the some combinations (9-9, 1-1). When I replied basketball scores jumped in my head (even though they don't increment by 1 all that often).

You still have to admit that numbers like 0, 3, 4 & 7 tend to show up as the end numbers in a large chunk of football games.

Anyway, with my luck I'll draw the good numbers and the game will turnout to be a shootout or field-goal heavy game.
