What are some of these songs popular from, pop 40 things? Two things I don't bother with are top 100 and country music. Those 2 areas I am musically inept.

Probably a record company paying Spotify to put it in the game. Unless they don't have a label. Then I don't know
Music played on the radio have a label. Nothing truly DIY in a garage ever makes it on the airwaves now.
Something I read too I found interesting. All these "indie" bands that produce themselves and whatnot is the reason for less rock bands making hits played on the radio. When a big label gets behind something and produces it professionally it is made for radio and has a different something going for it. It has more mass appeal and label backing.
I had to look him up. He sung w Selena Gomez, not my wheelhouse... Bubblegum/kiss/Elvis Durran mostly but he did write that song with Whiz Khalifa that I actually knew. Had zero idea this was him.
