I brought home a 414ce today. Trying it out in the hopes of finding something to replace my larrivee that i've never quite connected with. it's a great guitar but has a weird character to it.
i have a 355 that and i put an baggs i-beam pickup in and i love it. all my guitars have i-beams.
i tried a 314ce that must have been an aberration because it was just terrible all around. it was dead unplugged and horrible plugged in but i figured it was a fluke.
i really wanted to love this 414ce though. unplugged it's beautiful. the neck was great. the woods are beautiful. plugged in? it sounds like an electric guitar plugged into a keyboard amp.
i've learned that i just hate the ES system they use. still too magnetic sounding. the lows aren't bad but the highs just sound fake.
i'm really disappointed though. it's such a beautiful guitar but i do so much stuff plugged in and it just can't cut for me. and unplugged, though great, not better than the larrivee.
maybe someday they'll bring in a left-handed GA4 (close to what the 414 non-ce was). that's the obvious answer i guess. a GA4 with my beloved i-beams.
