You're True

Lonely cliffs and waterfalls
If no one sees me I am not here at all
You could be the one
To liberate me from the sun
So please give the moon to me

I’d be indebted to ya’
Walk the dog and pay rent to ya’
If you say the word
I am yours

I am sure
Nothing ever goes my way
But with you here that all may have changed

Suddenly I am new born child
But I am ready to live a while
With you there is so much left to do

And so I thank you dearly
For letting me see clearly
Open up she said, you’re true, you’re true

I am at home in my own skin
I am like an ocean whose tide has come in
Yes you could be the one to
Hold my hand beneath the full moon
You could be the one
You’re true, you’re true, you’re true

fixed the first line for ya.

Good call on the song though. GREAT song. I love tearing it up on the uke to this one.
  • I saw ed play this for the first time ever in Honolulu 06. He forgot his book, and had Ricky Ramone bring it on stage for him. I was wondering if he wrote it in the islands or something? It was the first time it was ever played. Does anyone know more about it? He said it was for Boat Kitty before he played it in Honolulu. He blew the fricken roof off the place playing a uke here!

The song debuted back in 2002 when Ed did a couple of solo uke shows w/ a couple acoustic numbers thrown in. This was during the period where Riot Act was being recorded. This is also where songs like Longing To Belong, Satellite, Can't Keep, Goodbye, Brokenhearted, and Thumbing My Way debuted.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Do you know why he wrote it? I was under the assumption that it had only been played 1 time according to the pj web site, and Ed said "He didn't know why, but he was attempting to play a ukulele song he had never played before" as he introduced the song to the croud during that show. It was the perfect song for da islands! The crowd went absolutly crazy. They also played Hawaii 78' (Ed sang in Hawaiian that night too). I thought I saw 2 new songs preformed at my first pj show! I really wanted to hear You're True again at San Diego 2, but it was great to see it on other set lists for Ed's tour.

Can't Keep is freakin awesome. And Thumbing My Way on the Benaroya cd is really good.

It is one of those incredible 'Ed' songs, just completely romantic, insightful, hopeful...its just one of those that seems to be perfect.

Well put, couldn't have described it any better in so few words.

  • Love that song!!! So glad he played it in 06 so I could have a better recording than the fan recordings!

I think from those uke songs I like Longing to Belong and Goodbye the most though.

I heard that set of tunes back in 2002, Your True, Longing to Belong, Satilite, I am mine, Can't Keep. It was a year after I seen PJ in NY. It feels just like yesterday. However when you hear them you feel it so deep all it can do is leave you feeling exposed. You learn your heart.

I've loved this song since I first heard it from a recording of Ed's solo appearance at a benefit at UCLA in 2002.

The Hawaii recording is awesome. Ed teared it up the few times he played it on the April Fools tour, too.

The best part of the song is the high note he hits near the end. I find myself waiting for that moment every time I play the track. Ed definitely knows how to make a good song GREAT in a matter of seconds. :)
