Long Road

So I have been listening to Long Road a lot recently, and I just love it. Excellent son.g, especially the "I have wished for so long, how I wish for you today" is really moving.

I've seen it live a few times but none can touch Kitchener 05...check it out if you can.
  • "Long Road" is one of my favorite PJ songs as well! Great lyrics and melody. My mom also enjoys the songs so I played "Long Road" and "Last Kiss" for her at her surprise 50th Birthday party last week. It was the first time since 2003 that I had performed for anyone live. It was pretty special to play for my Mom and our 150 friends and family members. I think it sparked the buzz for me to get back in music and maybe start recording my unfinished solo project that I have been working on since 2003. Who knows...we will see since we all walk the long road....

This one was and instant favorite for me and has remained so. My favorite version of this song used to be the one from Touring Band 2000. That changed once I heard Cincinnati '06.
"I think I kinda want it."
  • Easily my favorite opener...especially when it has some meaning, like in Cincy in '06.

Hell, easily one of my handful of favorite songs.

    And the wind keeps rollin'
And the sky keeps turning grey
    And the sun is set
The sun will rise another day

    just wow...
  • great tune, typical PJ song that sneaks up on you and all of a sudden it's a fav. loved it when it was used on "Scrubs".

Great song, no doubts. And the introducion, you really can fell as bell is ringing for the loss of someone who you love. And lyrics is beatiful.

when Ed starts singing "Cannot stay" it really hits me.

I love how is changes to "cannot say" for one line in the first verse.

Also, "the sun will rise another day."

That is typical Ed. Everybody thinks he writes depressing songs (see the "happy lyrics" thread elsewhere on this page) but that isn't always 100 percent true. Many of his "depressing" songs actually contain a tinge of hope, and this is one example.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

One of the best songs ever written by Ed.

Powerful words and this might just be me but when I hear Neil's use of the pump organ it's somehow symbolize the human organs, the heart and brain(mind). I just love the attribution it gives out.

Alas it is not a lost dog. it was on Merkinball
this song means so much to me
My younger brother played it for me 3 days before my mother died from cancer. I do not visit her gravesite much, but long road always brings her into my mind, my thoughts. When I heard Eds talk about long road in the 06 tour, he talked about ringing the bell- man I just cried so hard that night.
Just recently My younger brother got married, I was best man and shared the gift my brother gave me when he played me long road, I reflected on the words the sun has set, the sun will rise again- I turned to him and said well today is your sunrise, and then I thanked his new wife for being that sunrise.
I was told that there was a few tears in the room from that comment.
Im just glad that he got to understand the true meaning in that song.

For myself my sunrise is my wife and daughter
    whats yours??

I love the version from Dead Man Walking OST with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
    My favorite opener as well.
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.
  • I totally love this song too - its lyrics are so straight forward and yet powerful in a way that speaks of a kind of optimistic universal nostalgia. It reminds me not to take the "present moments" for granted but to accept that they are fleeting and continously changing into memories of the past.
