2017 - DMB takes the year off, Dave & Tim tour, start of Platinum for Dave, DMB follows suit in 2018
2021 - PJ currently off tour, Ed & Friends tour, start of Platinum for Eddie, ....
Going to be a lot of pissed off people if that happens.

And a lot of cucks who defend it as "evolving". "It's not 1995 anymore!!"
Price increases all set the same is one thing to be upset about.  Going in blind for a public sale and seeing $1000 platinum tickets is another thing all together. Venues sell out so fast some people definitely overpaid today in worry that if they released the tickets they would be shut out.

Platinum existed for a small number of Vitalogy Foundation charity tickets for the spring 2020 tour, as well as Ohana Fest. Nowhere near as many available/set aside as other artists, but they existed.
It did for sure and at least that was for a good cause. Still hard to see some of the best seats with full rows going over $750 a ticket charity or not.

The EV platinum tickets aren’t even for charity, and aren’t even that good of seats TBH.
Was talking about spring 2020 shows and you are def right.

Fear is a powerful motivator that TM and plenty of other companies capitalize on.

    $695 per ticket now

    crazy
Keep in mind these Platinum priced tickets only happen with the artist’s permission.
I just can't imagine going to a show and sitting next to someone who paid 1/3 the price for essentially the same seat

    it would drive me nuts

Me  too. I hate paying for first class flights and getting stuck next to an upgrade with points person.  Devalues the entire experience 😂

I think you were making the opposite point though like you are the one that overpaid.  You didn’t. They got a below market ticket (like a free upgrade) you paid what they are worth

Yes and no. The artist can certainly fight this, but TM/Live Nation can also require it for their venues. No platinum priced tickets = no venue.....no ticket distribution
I'm not sure this is the case.  100% true that platinum tickets happen with the permission of the band.  I'm just not sure Live Nation can force the practice unless you are signed as a Live Nation artist like U2 is.  In this case, as previously mentioned by someone - PJ would get a guaranteed some of money for each tour date and would have no control over ticket pricing, merch, etc.

If you think about - they subsidized for your ticket.

IMHO I'd rather have all tickets sold as 10c at normal rate than some dynamic scalping from TM. "Not for You" all day long.

Comparing how much we paid for tickets has never come up in any preshow small talk I have engaged in.

Although, given the reality of this tour, it might going forward.

  • Dynamic pricing is going to be the new thing on TM and it sucks.

Anecdotally, I paid $275 to see Kanye West (hold your opinions) at the Coliseum in Los Angeles tonight. Most people weren’t willing to pay that much, dynamic pricing kicked in, and tickets in the same area are now at $150. Tickets in other areas that were once $200 are now $50.

Dynamic pricing essentially makes TM a scalper. Ask for a lot of money up front and if not enough people are willing to pay, slowly drift your prices down. It fucking sucks as the buyer having to guess whether/when to pull the trigger or wait it out.

Dynamic pricing has been around for years. We have been lucky so far with PJ and I hope that continues going forward. Hopefully this tour is a one off.

Must say I'm surprised (and disappointed) Ed allowed them to sell Platinum tix for his shows. And almost everything in the general sales appear to be listed as Platinum.
I didn't criticize the $200 plus fees face (didn't like it but didn't criticize it), but this is a whole different level of gouging your fans.
Really sad day, I hope the band doesn't follow suit (that DMB example above doesn't fill me with confidence though)

    Enjoy the shows everyone.

If dynamic pricing is here to stay for Pearl Jam/Eddie tickets it’ll be even harder to win the 10 club lottery seats which may be the only way to get decent seats for face value.

I understand why artists do this, I mean why sell ALL the seats at $150/200 and watch them end up selling at $500/$1000.

I do have one problem with this though, especially in COVID times - if I buy a ticket for $650 and then can’t go I shouldn’t be only able to recoup $150. I get not allowing resale for higher but why should I eat $500+ per ticket when that’s the price that Ticketmaster set.

"Hey Ed, here is your 15% for your fan club, which is more than we give any other artists.  We get to do whatever we want with the rest of the tickets." Pretty sure that is how it goes down.
