Man of the Hour

I always cry when I hear that song, no matter what, because it reminds me of my father, who passed away four years ago...

This is definitely a tear jerker. I love this song. The "he was guiding me his own way" and "just goodbye for now" gets me everytime.

I was so mad, I sat through the last 40 minutes of "Big Fish" the other day on TBS (good movie) just to see the song play during closing credits. When the movie was over they did one of those speed up the credits, and show a promo for another show over the song.

    That song is beautiful.
  • That song is amazing... I can relate to it also, it reminds me of a very dear friend I lost some years ago and puts a tear in my eye everytime I hear it.

It always annoys me when channels do that 'lets promote something else over the rolling credits of this movie' thing, A) you never get to see if that really was the actor you'd argued with your boyfriend over playing that cameo role and B) you normally miss the song! bastards.....
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

I HAD TO buy that Big Fish dvd...I just love that movie sooo much. I can certainly understand why PJ submitted a song for that soundtrack.

Not many films hit me really hard emotionally...sure I get hit...just not like the same way that film did...and having Man of The Hour play at the very end just made everything so overwhelming...

Dare I say it...perhaps one of PJ's greatests moments, for a fan

I always think of my grandfather. It almost hurts to listen to it, but it's such a beautiful song.

  • My dad passed away from cancer (62) on June 24th.

I got my mom to play the song at the end of the funeral in the church.
Wasn't too sure what others would think about the choice but I knew it was right.

    And it was

I'm sorry for your loss. It must be a hard time for yourself and your family, but I think you made a great choice of song. I lost my dad just under 6 years ago and I wish MOTH was around then to play at his funeral.

I remember the first time I heard the song and it just felt like it was written about my dad. I have to hold back the tears everytime.

I have a slightly different feeling in regards to the song. Seeing Big Fish was the first date I had with my ex-girlfriend. The main reason I wanted to see the movie was, yes I'll admit it, the Pearl Jam song in it.

It was a good movie though, I can't deny that.

Anyway, so every time I hear it, while yes I think of the movie, and how its about fathers/father figures, I still think of her sometimes. Sigh.....crazy women she was.
  • This song has such a saddened memory for me, I remember my parents telling me that my nan was extremely ill and didn't have long to live, and a few days later I saw 'Big Fish' at the cinema, the guy in the film reminded me of my nan and at the end when the credits started rolling and Ed's voice came through cinema surround sound, I just started bawling like a baby.

I always associate that film and the song with my nan. They have such strong memories and emotions for me.

I was lucky enough to hear it in Milan last year and I recorded the clip on my camera, I look back on it and it's such a perfect moment.

Much love for this song :)
