POLL - The WEAKEST LINK of AMERICAN BANDS - (WEST) ROUND 4

MedozKMedozK Posts: 9,209
Ok, with the new 'WEAKEST LINK' I will be staying with music and bands. However this time we will debate the greatest American Band.

Now since there are so many that limiting it to 10 would only cause chaos and confusion. I have decided to spread this 'Weakest Link' out into 4 different Polls. These polls will be identified tournament style as East, South, West, and North. I have tried to keep some cohesion with the band and geographic poll they are placed in, but couldn't do it for all. These polls WILL be occurring at the same time, so you will need to place votes in all 4 polls for each round. I did this so it wouldn't take so long to complete.

Each of the 4 polls will be narrowed down to the final 2, then I will take the 2 from each poll and make a Championship poll with 8 bands.

Alright, so here with the FINAL FOUR. Lets determine the GREATEST AMERICAN BAND. WEST REGION

You are going to pick the band that you think is the "Weakest Link" after 2 days I remove the two (2) bands with the most votes. The final two will move on to the Championship Poll.

The Beach Boys - Eliminated Round 2
Van Halen - Eliminated Round 3
The Doors
Eagles - Eliminated Round 1
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Eliminated Round 3
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Sly & the Family Stone - Eliminated Round 1
Metallica
Guns N' Roses
Grateful Dead - Eliminated Round 2

Seriously.  Metallica and Guns 'n Roses beating out The Doors and CCR?  Strange!

I don't dislike The Doors. My Pop played their records when I was little. I just like the other bands better!

I don't think anyone in this group considers CCR a "west" band is the reason Brian.

Interesting, because CCR was formed in El Cerrito, CA (next door to Berkeley where I was born) and they got stuck in Lodi, a mostly non-descript Central Valley, CA town.

All this time I thought they were really southern.  I was this many years old when I learned that CCR is a California band, lol!

You're not alone!  Fogerty's voice has a bit of southern tinge to it and with all that bayou swap business in some of their songs, it's easy to think of them as a southern band.
Another band from the same area, Green Day, had people fooled for a while with Billy Joe Armstrong doing his pseudo English punk vocal thing.  That band is also from the East Bay and played there first gigs in and around Albany, CA (where I lived for my first 11 months), a little town sandwiched between El Cerrito and Berkeley.  They even had me fooled for awhile!

It was ridiculously hard to pick this round.  I listen to the music of The Doors and CCR more than the other two by a long shot these days, but CCR was the least influential to me personally growing up, so had to choose them.  Four fantastic bands.

I can think of other words here!    I'll try to be nice though and just go with "strange"  (as in " people are strange..." )

Anybody feel like giving some good feedback for MedozK? I feel like we say thank you a lot, but there isn't ever any positive feedback, unless I've missed it. I will start by saying that I think he gave us some really good bands to choose from. It was a good mix of alternative, rock, southern rock, and funk. And I think that it was a nice touch that he listened to mickeyrat's tournament design.

Thank you, M, for more cool and fun polls.  Much appreciated!

You know what else I like? Whenever Bon Jovi is one of the options, guys try to act repulsed, but you know when New Jersey hit they were calling radio stations to request "I'll Be There For You" everyday.

In other words, please keep Bon Jovi in rotation, MedozK. Even if the poll is "Weakest Link of Motown Groups."

We get it. You made out to “I’ll Be There for You” maybe even went a little further to “Lay Your Hands on Me.” Nostalgia doesn’t mean that the band is anything approaching decent, though.

    Like I said …

Thanks a lot. I do these really to read what y'al think. The entertainment value of some of your conversations are great...lol

Hope we can continue to have fun with these polls. I am really interested to see what band comes out on top once we combine the top 2 from each of the polls.

I get it about wanting our favorite bands that are less widely appreciated to be in these polls.  I think the problem is, there are so many bands and this site only allows for so many options.
I would love to see, but would not expect to see, these bands/musicians included:
    The Replacements (!!!)/ Paul Westerberg
    Dinosaur Jr/J/Lou/Sebadoh
    The Dream Syndicate/ Steve Wynn
    Juliana Hatfield
    Lemonheads
    Japan/David Sylvian
    Minutemen
    Black Flag
    Mission of Burma
    Psychedelic Furs
Cream (did we do Cream maybe?)
    Jethro Tull ( " )
