Garden of stone?

What? Cemetary?
In the shadow of the light from a black sun
Frigid statue standing icy blue and numb
Where are the frost giants Ive begged for protection?
I'm freezing

Are you afraid, afraid to die
Don't be afraid, afraid to try

not to me, to me the garden of stone is the soulless way in which we go about life in big cities. the stone is the buildings, asphalt, etc.

The direction of the eye, so misleading
The defection of the soul, nauseously quick

when i read that i think of what its like walking down the footpath in a busy inner-city street. you see hundreds of people walking by you. look into their eyes. their stare is empty. people are just so soulless and empty in the way in which they go about their daily routine.

The defection of the soul. People instantly become distracted towards material posession. There may be a homeless person or someone struggling, but as soon as we see a nice item for purchase in a shop window we become so distracted. like a soul defecting.

    I don't question, our existence
I just question, our modern needs

pretty self explanatory when you think about city life. yes we have every right to exist as human beings. but what of our modern needs? people are so materialistic and careless of the people around them.

I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden of stone...yeah...

eddie clearly doesnt give a shit what people thinks. he will walk into a city and do as he feels, regardless of whether it makes him an outcast. He will walk over and help the poor beggar, even if it makes people look at him like an outcast.

    I don't show...I don't share...
I don't need, yeah...What you have to give...

also self explanatory. Everywhere, people left right and centre, trying to sell things, to squander every last penny they can. But eddie doesnt give a shit what theyre selling. I dont need it to be a human being.

I don't see the narrator to be asserting his independence. His hands are bound, he seems like he's being lead somewhere--the garden of stone.

What is face blood? What is a shadow flag?

I think you may be on to something, though.

Yep, that's when I finally knew what it was about. I had no clue that was it before hand.

I'm thinking 'face blood' means that the charecter has been beaten,.. abused.. according to the soldier interpretation it's a dead or dying soldier I'd say. Shadow flag could be soemthing about being outcast or, once again with the soldier version, a way to say that he's dying.

It seems to me that a long-cast shadow could be considered a flag all by itself.

Maybe.. but the word 'flag' is a symbol to mean that he's putting up some kind of signal. It's not there for a rhyme, so it was specifcally chosen.
