Please play Comes Then Goes at Ohana Encore this weekend!

Eddie is so gracious with his band mates that he didn't play the three best songs on Gigaton...Comes then goes, who ever said and river cross.  Three that he wrote.  I must must must hear Comes then goes live, so let Eddie know to play it either night.  So excited to head out soon and get 2-3 hours of live PJ back to back nights!!!

  • I have a sense that Comes Then Goes will be a bit sacred, and possibly held back. I hope I'm wrong cos' its such a moving song.

My prediction is they play every song from the album over the two nights.

Didn’t get cones then goes yet but did get Who ever said, river cross and buckle up that were all played live for the first time. Loved every minute and moment of the show.

Can I put this out there again for Friday night? Will they ever perform Comes then Goes?

  • I doubt that it ever will be played live.

I agree that it is unlikely to be played. Even StatTracker gave out a trophy for hearing all of Gigaton without it. I don’t have that for any other album where I have one song left to complete (I’m looking at you, Around the Bend).

Would a big fricking sign at the Ohana show on Friday help LOL.  I'm not a sign guy.  Actually kinda get annoyed when people do it, but I did go to an LA show years ago when a lady with a huge sign for "All or None" that actually worked.  They played it as an add in that night I think if I recall correctly, and that was one of my whales at the time.  I think Comes then Goes is my only whale to be honest.

I think that particular song, as heavy as it is, won't be played, sign or no sign. I like it, I just can't see Ed being able to get through it.

I don't think it's because of the heaviness of it. I think it has a lot of words that there's no way he remembers and, as far as we know, it's a solo song and singing all those verses and playing guitar is a lot for him. Have we ever heard that it's anyone other than Ed playing the guitar part that is the only musical accompaniment? (It would be great if he could relearn the words or use the Teleprompter and sing this to start the encore instead of the covers.)

I’m sure the band played the guitar on it. Stone said it was the best song written on Gigaton in an interview I heard.

I agree it’s heavy and I’m sure it is written with his brother and Cornell both in mind as well as any and all others who have died tragically or committed suicide I think it is the heaviness and complexity that keep it out. Maybe one day

How does Stone saying that indicate that someone other than Ed plays guitar on it? Ed has the sole songwriting credit for music and lyrics, so why should we think that someone else is playing the guitar part, which is the only instrumental part? It's an Ed solo song that they decided to put on a Pearl Jam album.

IIRC, I think Jeff said somewhere that the band's contribution to that song was to not contribute - something along the lines that it was perfect as it was. That left me with the impression it's just Ed on that track. (but I could be wrong)

Probably because all other true songs (not counting Foxy..., etc., though Bugs has even been played 3 times) have been played at least once.  It will be played live someday.  I wonder what the record timeframe is for a studio song to have never been played?  This might be it.
