Best last lines

What do you think are some of the best closing lines? Here's some of mine:

I'm Open:
"Lying sideways atop crumpled sheets and no covers
he decides to dream...
Dream up a new self... for himself"
(Do more spoken word, guys!)

Army Reserve:
"I'm not frantic,
I can see it coming.
Darling you'll save me,
if you save yourself."

Unemployable:
"Near to death,
Here to die,
Scared alive"

Oh, and of course, Black:
"I know someday have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's life
but why, why, why...
can't it be, can't it be
mine..."

  • man of the hour:

Now the man of the hour is taking his final bow
    As the curtain comes down
I feel that this is just goodbye for now.

one of ed's best written, and most moving, songs.
Another habit says it's in love with you
Another habit says its long overdue
Another habit like an unwanted friend
I'm so happy with my righteous self

For me, the best closing lines I've ever seen.
    I just want to scream...
    ...hello!!!
My god its been six years...
    never dreamed...
    ...you'd return.

    Ok, I think that's enough !

    ;)

    European ten version
Beavis : Is this Pearl Jam?
Butt-head: This guy makes faces like Eddie Vedder.
Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
    Butt-head: Well, they both suck.

Youve got time, youve got time to escape

I'd have to agree on one of his most moving songs. I had heard it once or twice from listening to Benaroya, and had watched Big Fish and the song as the credits rolled. But when I heard it live, I was completely overcome with the emotional element of this song. It was very powerful, now I love this song everytime I hear it.

    I love that one too!

    Here is another I like:

    he's stiffening, we're all whistling
    a man we'll soon forget
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • gotta say my pick is the last line of Parting Ways...

    Drifting away...Drifting away...Drifting away...

exactly what i do when i hear that song (or album, for that matter)
“I don't know what this means. I don't think it means anything.”
    -Eddie Vedder
  • Wow, this is a difficult thread to respond to!! I'm just gonna say the whole catalogue and I'll post later!!
    "Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

All those posted already are excellent!

    Here's another one:

Just be darling and I will be too
    Faithful... to you
"We get these pills to swallow... how they stick in your throat... Tastes like gold..."
  • One more ...

    Breath:
"Oh, if I knew where it was I would take you there but there's much more
    than this.
Ooh. Whoa, much more than this. Woh see the world. Much more than ...
    Oh, much more than. Why?"

    And of course:

I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up...
"We get these pills to swallow... how they stick in your throat... Tastes like gold..."
  • if he's truly out of sight
is he truly out of mind?

I love Fatal... great song... Ed has reveresed the lines as well which makes this sound equally cool.

  • Tough to say. For me it's either Breath or Leash.
  • Not my favourite last lines, but I thought they deserved a mention.

    Ghost:
    I've seen it all before,..
Bring it on cause I'm no victim
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

    guess which one:

I thought you were my friend ...but I guess...I guess I (hate you)

  • It struck me recently that the lyrics to "Wishlist" are beautiful. I guess the realization had something to do with my growing older and having made some mistakes some mistakes. Anyhow, I'd like to submit to all of you the last true, in my opinion, lyric of "Wishlist": I wish I was the verb to trust, and never let you down.

When the realization hit me I realized that Vedder (in my opinion) intended for the verb to be "love". Hello! Darned song gets me misty-eyed at times--reminding me of how I'd like to be a better man (pun intended) than I am.

Courdoroy... and a damn fine song I might add...although I am sure that I spelled it wrong.

  • How 'bout these three:

"Can you feel this world with your heart and not your brain?"
    Green Disease
And: "Ask, I'm an ear...Fuck it, we'll disappear"

"Delight in our youth...get out of my fuckin' face"

  • ^ MFC has always been one of my very favorites. :)

Also 'untitled',... "With you I could never be alone..". Seems the effect of MFC is multiplied several times when that improv preceeds it. To me at least... spent a lot of time thinking about those 2.
