Isnt it strange, when youre going through an emotional time (happy or sad) pretty much every song you hear (especially pearl jams) is relevant to that situation. I have just separated from my partner of five years, and on the day I was,of course, listening to pj, and I hear some lyrics" I know, life could be different if I held on. I know, I could be something if I held on". I also had countless other times during that day where its like the songs were guiding me through the difficut decisions. Does anyone else agree or have similar stories? I find this happens mainly wth ol' faithful pj.

  • I totally agree!!! Good lyrics from songs that move you (but espacially PJ's) take new and surprising meanings everytime your situation changes or that you change yourself. I know this has been the case for me in many many occasions... It's almost like the words were written for you for that particular situation you live, to let you understand something. I am also alone now (for one year) after being six years with my girlfriend, and lots of songs that I already knew strucked me in the face with new meanings: Better man, Nothingman, ... Sometimes, I am even scared that I am loosing my mind, that I am earing things that weren't written. But no, I am not. It's just the power of such intelligent and touching music and lyrics.

Now I just have to find a new girlfriend to share the beautifull things of life with, such as Pearl Jam music...
  • one of my favorite things about pj is that you can really listen to them in any kind of mood that your in, and they fit somehow. i find this not to be true of most other bands.
i have wished for so long, how i wish for you today

I know what you mean, last summer after me and mine broke up I couldn't even listen to a lot of stuff, things that we kind of shared (Paul westerberg and Bowie the most). Not only that but I found I could identify with so much absolute crap on the radio, all the nickelback theory of a deadman lame ass music which disgusted me to no end. After a while I noticed that I was feeling certain PJ songs more than I ever did before, a lot of those have very different meanings to me now than when I first heard them, Sad, Light years were played a lot but then that changed and it became Undone and Down, more positive stuff.

  • That is so true. That happens to me 99 times a day at least. Every song just has so much being and emotion, it's not just a bunch of bs, it's relevant, which makes me love pj that much more :-D

  • yup agree totally!

theres so many references to change which kinda going thru at the moment, corduroy "everything has changed, absolutely nothings changed", Hard to Imagine "things were different then, oh, theyre different now, i tried to explain...somehow"... "the whole world will be different soon.." brain of j... makes me feel better.

they have a song or two to suit every mood/ experience.

I always listen to the 2000 boots when I´m sad. I mean hear the recordings of corduroy, animal, hail hail, breakerfall, grievance, rival, alive, go... always put a smile on my face.

When I brooked up with my last girlfriend I was sitting in my car and Nothingman came up, I haven´t thougt of that song as anything special before, but now that song reminds me of her in a really happy way. Just a beutiful song that reminds me of a beutiful girl.
Shoud mention that we brooked up 2 days before the Prague concert, and I have never been happier when Stone played the first chords of that one.
It just become a really nice ending for me on our realationship.

So sads songs could be as postive as any songs
