When asked about "Nothingman" in an interview, Eddie Vedder stated, "The idea is about if you love someone and they love you, don't fuck up...'cause you are left with less than nothing

Not just only one of my favourite PJ songs, but one of my favourite songs of all time, absolute class. The lyrics are so meaningful and moving. Sometimes when you hear lyrics you think why didn't they that instead, it would have been more powerful. Not with this one, it can't be bettered.

I have just had to put on itunes now!!!! caught a bolt of lightning, cursed the day he let it go.......

    The best song on Vitalogy.

Ed wrote the lyrics, but Jeff wrote all the music. Jeff didn't write any lyrics for a PJ record until Pilate and Low Light for Yield.

Ooh I love this song! It gives me such good memories of when I first got into PJ a few years ago (hence the board name)

I got to hear it live in Nijmegen the other week, it was amazing.

pearl jam is not to be spread on bread or toast. it should be ingested through the ears, or injected directly into the brain. it may also enter the soul in a somewhat spritual way. amen

this is easily my favorite tune...Jeff has such a cool song writing style...all of his songs are my preferred ones...

I listen to this song on a daily basis...it's the song that makes me unwind and feel better about everything but it also helps me mourn whenever needed

    my take:

love gone bad, for some reason (once divided)
he let her go (cursed the day he let her go)
they eventually forget about the love they shared, she doesn't believe in him anymore. (empty stares/she don't want him/won't feed him)
he realizes he still loves her (he who forgets will be destined)
    could have been something, nothingman
