Variety article: PJ is the new Grateful Dead

  • They need to shake up their last encore to be granted that title.

But nothing is stopping them to do so.

EVENFLOW AS THE LAST SONG LETS GO

I think that would breathe new life into the song. After the solo, building to that last chorus, house lights slowly come on for the last chorus. Oh boy. That would be great.

    Great article.
I was so lucky to experience the Dead and Pearl Jam Soldier Field shows.  I keep hoping for Everyday People in an encore again.

So, the Dead were just at Hershey right?
Anyway we got stuck in traffic with everyone crossing the street in front of us. The sea of tie-dye was amazing!!
But their community looked to be much more ingrained. Examples: LOTS pf tents selling everything, shirts to food, what a community! And the amount of RV's following them puts PJ to shame, sorry but it does.
We seem to be more die hard travelers, they looked like they live alongside the band.

Point being, time to check them out for me, don't know why I never have...
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Agreed that their encores need to be switched up more.  Release as a closer!!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

Both of these would be great at a show to just throw everyone off. Not complain as they change it up more then 99% of bands out there but if they could really switch up the second encore that would be great.

I resisted for too long and over quarantine, I've become obsessed.  Besides "American Beauty" (which feels like a best-of, but is actually a studio album), this live compilation (Spotify link below) is a really good introduction to their live stuff.  Standouts for me are "Whart Rat" and "Morning Dew" but the whole thing is excellent.  I just saw them at Citi Field and it was spectacular / agree about the community - really special.

The San Sebastian boot features a pretty gnarly version of Alive that is quite comical - not opener though.
