Hurtles into the mystic at warp speed
It may have been some unassuming blurb buried within the latest album reviews in ‘91, but David Fricke’s comment “On Ten, Pearl Jam … hurtles into the mystic at warp speed”, has stayed imprinted on my mind even 30 years later. Somewhat because the words were so poignantly poetic my teenage brain desperately wanted to understand what they meant, but mostly because the were the sales pitch caption on the Columbia House Records cassette listing for Ten. It’s countless the number of times I filled a 1 cent order form out, but every time I poured through that mini catalog, I had to find that caption to make sure it was still firmly stamped in place.
