I know this has been reported elsewhere, but Charlie deserves his own thread at this time.
R.I.P the great Charlie Watts

The coolest of the Stones in my opinion. Rest In Beats as the kids say today (fitting for a drummer).

One person posted on another site said, "...it’s strange but you trick yourself into believing that the Stones, McCartney, etc. will be around forever."  So true.  Yet despite knowing full-well that none of our music greats will be around for ever, when the sting and pain of the loss comes, it sets us back on our heels.
When you've listened to the beats of a drummer like Charlie for so long, those beats become a part of your own pulse, and with Charlie gone, a part of us greatly feels that loss.
Thank you Charlie Watts for so much great music.

Does anyone else remember an Ed interview where he talked about opening for the Stones at whichever point this was, and spending the rest of one night in Keith Richards' hotel room, playing records loudly, talking & hanging out?  And eventually the hotel phone rang it someone was very annoyed on the other end, complaining of the noise, and it turned out to be Charlie Watts!  Anyone else remember that?

I just loved that snapshot of a legendary band around so long, so set in their habits and ways, and of course Keith is up all night blasting music and hanging, and Charlie is trying to relax and rest and is annoyed as hell at the noise.... I just love how many times that scenario propbably played out over decades <3

Rest In Beats Charlie Watts <3

I didn’t even see the news yet this morning. When I checked my Instagram feed just about every musician I follow had posted a photo of Charlie. Across all genres it’s great to see how respected he was and how much he’ll be missed.

RIP to a real class act.

"We are so deeply, deeply saddened to hear of Charlie Watts passing.
The impact he’s had on musicians and listeners across the planet is profound.
His drumming style and drum sound will live on forever in the songs. The songs that are forever in our hearts. That’s where Charlie will be now. We were so lucky to have him.
All our love and support to Mick, Keith, Ronnie and all of the Stones crew and family.
It was a true honor every time we were in his presence." - Eddie on behalf of Pearl Jam (Facebook)

This is an excellent read. I especially love Springsteen's drummer's story of making Watts' day bringing along drummers HE admired to a show.  Love it all.

Also, if you can, donate to the Guardian, it's an amazing paper & it's a good thing if they survive financially.
