    I'm pretty sure it's:

"Don't call me, Daughter, not fit to"

IE The father saying don't call me. I think also it is the father saying i am not worthy of your love, don't call me, i'll remember you by this picture.

Although i suppose he could be angry and be saying you're not worthy of me, but i doubt it.

Edit. I'm pretty sure 'call' means make contact, not 'call' like a name.
  • yeaahh thats what i meant like call on the phone, okay cuz i was never sure which one, cuz i think both could fit...haha i used to think its about the father too but i said parents cuz in the beginning it talks about the mom

No, it's the opposite. The chorus is written from the perspective of the little girl.

It's about a girl, physically and/or sexually and/or psychologically abused, telling her abuser(s) -- ie her parents -- that they have lost the right to call her their daughter.

Don't call me daughter because you aren't fit to.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

I agree with you that it's from the daughter's perspective, but I'm not so sure about the message behind it. I always read it rather as a "don't call me daughter, (I'm) not fit to". The girl's pretty much opressed by the parents so that might work, too, at least for me. Particularly with the lines preceding the first chorus: "Painted room...can't deny there's something wrong..."
  • ahh why do there have to be so many ways to interpret this?!?!

okay my intial thought was the daughter feeling she couldnt live up to her parents so why bother calling her their daughter

    haha im watching full house....

  • Since many of the lyrics he wrote around that time had to do with troubled youth - why go, rearviewmirror etc - im pretty sure its from the girls point of view. saying to the parents "dont call me daughter" because your "not fit to" as in the way they treated her. The picture that she keeps will remind her of how she was treated.

This is why i believe that 'call me' could refer to contact, as 'picture kept' to me says that this is all the memory she/he wants.

That's how I always saw it.

That's how I see it too. I've often thought the daughter in this song is the main character from Rearviewmirror and that the two songs were connected.
