Differences between the Alive RSD 2021 EU and US Cassettes

Hi All

I received a copy of the EU (from local record store here in Melbourne OZ) and the US (direct from Ten C) this week and have just opened and listened to them both.

Its been great to set up my old late 80s cassette deck and give these a whirl!

I noticed some differences between the two as follows:

EU
- No holes on the rear sleeve
- Copyright info below 'Pearl Jam' on the cassette itself
- Sounds more dynamic than the US version and slightly louder but not brickwalled
- Has Epic and Sony trademarks on inside sleeve on the lower right

US
- Holes on the rear sleeve
- Copyright info to the right of 'Pearl Jam' on the cassette itself
- Sounds slightly muffled and is recorded at a lower level
- Has Epic trademarks only on inside sleeve on the lower right

Interested to hear other peoples thoughts.

All the best

Glenn

  • There’s a EU version of the cassette?! 🤔 The record store I went to in the UK seemed to think it was US only…

Banquet Records had it up as import, like the USA vinyl. Wish I knew as I would of bought a copy from them.

Euro vinyl is made in the Netherlands while the USA vinyl is made in Mexico.

  • Tbh I had no idea the two cassettes I ordered would be different when I ordered them. Only realised the difference when I received them.

While interesting to see variations etc I just cant go back to buying casettes. The thing I always loved was the exterior durability, never needed to worry about getting scratched etc. Good for in the car. The downside was once the tape got mangled in the machine that was it.

Was never a fan of the artwork and sleeve notes all squashed in.

I didn't know there were a USA & Euro release on the cassette. Thanks for letting us know. Was able to find a EU release. My local record store didn't have any copies. Was able to score one from 10club.
