I never hear too much about Of the Girl. I absolutely love this song. I never contemplated over my favorite Pearl Jam song until Of the Girl. Evenflow got me hooked and has always been number one with no close seconds until Of the Girl. I can never just listen to this song just once, usually it is a minimum of 3 times, but there have been times I listen to it time after time for hours. I really do not know what it is about this song that I love so much, I just hits me the wrong way. I have never been privledged enough to hear it live myself, only off Binural and bootlegs. I have to see it at least once live before I die.

    The guy started out with a poor hand in life. He also my some bad decisions. His regrets haunt him. That is why he is awake at quarter to 4, thinking about a girl. how he makes his get away = how the girl is a distraction from the problems he faces. Although I kind of get the feeling that the girl has no idea he exists, and really just makes him feel worse.

    Kind of reminds me of this movie "Jesus' Son". just came to mind when reading the lyrics.

    It is fantastic live. They opened with it the first night in San Francisco and it is worth getting the boot just for it. I saw a video of it on youtube awhile awhile ago but it is gone now. Seeing it live really sky-rocketed it in my favortie Pearl Jam song list! It is probably in the top five now.

    I am not just saying this because I was there, 2000 Cincy opener is the best ever. Mike's playing is unreal on that version..

    I guess Of the Girl is not loved by many like it is by me.
