Pearl Jam - my partners in life

Since the first time I listened to PJ they have been a part of my life. We´re growing side by side.
The songs have been, and are a help for me to get things right and in some kind of order. They´re upplifting, reasuring, releasing to me.
With this last album I felt like we´d grown together and where on the same level in our lifes. I think the album´s story is about how you handle life, taking your life, and the loss of a loved one. The critisism on the warsituation in the world and a simple song about how to appriciate what earth brings to you in a form of a sea in Big Wave.
To me the music is the most important, the lyrics come second. Or, should I say, the music, the sound of the lyrics is more important than the words. I love Ed´s voice. Sometimes I think he could have been one of the greatest musicians in the classical world along with Mozart and the boys. I think it shows in songs like Cropduster, Parachutes and Army Reserve for example.

I guess there is a couple of you here that share my experience. And it´s nice to be able to communicate with you all. I think PJ stands for more than that they are a simple rockband. They are conciouss and sets high standards for us humans to follow or take in consideration. Feel the kind humanity from them and the care of how we live and take care of our world and our selfs as individuals. I think one can clearly feel their love for people and life itself, don´t you?

I wont appologies for my english since its not my first language. You guys just have to accept my faults and I think you do that. Am I right?

I totally know where you're coming from. Pearl Jam is the soundtrack of my life. I can go back to a certain point in my life and tie a song with it, and it fits so perfectly. Coincidence? I think not...

It's exactly the same for me too, i have grown up with them and have always been at the same point at the same time.
Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!

The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.
  • Like you guys, PJ has been part of my life...since my first year in grade school. I vaguely remember my older cousin introducing PJ to me in '91. I guess the music helped him cope with the problems that he was having then. Their music has helped me too (still is), when my parents broke up. Also, I didn't really have friends in grade school & high school, so I turned to their music.

yep, same for me. they seem to be exactly where I am in my life too. During "ten" I was angry, pissed that I was in the situations I was. then v.s, I began to feel comfortable in my own skin. Vitology...was dark years for me, lots of feelings about suicide and what not, then "No code" was like a cloud lifted. I found my freedom too: college. And it goes on and on until today. I am a responsible adult now, and I feel ready to deal with community and global issues such as war. So, I guess long story short....yep probably everyone here has these feelings. I love PJ and I love loving them!

  • I feel the same way. I was 20 when ten came out. It was like an answer to a prayer. Up until then i felt like i had no one that understood me or even really cared for that matter. I felt alone in a mean world. Pearl Jam brought light and love back into my world. Ever since then pj have been my role models- i learned more from pj songs that i learned from my parents(and i have 2 sets-birth and foster) They stand for everything i believe in. I honestly think that i might have not made it to 35 if not for them. I am grateful to have them as a part of my life. I grow inside everytime i listen to them. I am touched by the thought that i also have a group of friends(some i haven't even met yet)like all you guys to relate to and share the love and experiences that pearl jam has brought into our lives. Thank you all so much. I could cry right now. Honestly i love all you guys. I hope this all lasts forever. I also think that pj has made me a better mom-they have instilled in me the ideals and morals that i hope to instill in my son. Now i am crying.

    Peace Love and Pearl Jam.

  • Pearl Jam has been my escape. I love their music so much and it means alot to me. Their last album came out at a time where I was dealing with the same emotions as what the album dealt with. It has given me alot of inspiration. I tihink it is kind of funny, but I say that some people find God when they go through tough times, some people find drugs, but I found Pearl Jam. So in a way, Pearl Jam is my savior.

They've definitely been a huge influence in my travel decisions, and other types of planning. They've kindof been one of the rooms of the house that is my life these past 14 years. . . probably the attic, which is always the coolest room, full of surprises :D

I have told my friends and family on more than one occasion...Pearl Jam saved my life. I mean that literally. they think I am just "talking" but it is complete true. I would love to know how many of us (b/c I am sure there are plenty) feel PJ saved thier life. Anyone else?

You know if it wasn't for Pearl Jam I probably would have moved east instead of west. They were the last straw when i decided to move to Seattle for 10 years. Life would have been very different. Now, that is food for thought.

  • I believe that listening to PJ lyrics as I've grown up has made me a better person and taught me more then listening to what my parents had to say at the time. I also agree with Humanlight and DarthVedder88 (and I really, really wish I had tickets to Reading/Leeds )
  • Great thread.

I like to think that the songs have always been there, I just have to stick around long enough to hear them all.
