dissident about adoption?

I was at the first S.F. show and they blew my panties off!! They are seriously the best band alive!! Cannot get over this bands talent and the energy they create is like nothing I have ever experienced in my life...that said, I am re-aquainting myself with their music. which is really cool because it's 10 years later, from a completely different perspective and I am thinking dissident sounds alot like a mother giving her child up for adoption:

"she nursed him there, over a night
i wasn't so sure she wanted him to stay
what to say...what to say
but soon she was down, soon he was low
at a quarter past...a holy no...
she had to turn around
when she couldn't hold, oh...she folded...
a dissident is here
escape is never, the safest path
a dissident, a dissident is here
and to this day, she's glided on
always home but so far away
like a word misplaced
nothing said, what a waste
when she had contact...with the conflict...
there was meaning, but she sold him to the state
she had to turn around.."

p.s. please don't quote ed saying that interpretation is that of the audience, I am familiar with this philosophy and agree completely, as I am adopted, that's how I interpret this. Just wondering what it was originally written about. Thanx!

on these boards, and it makes sense to me....I am adopted, too, so maybe I'm biased to that view?!

There's another thread here about this song. Another poster wrote it's about a political dissident and how he is betrayed and handed in to the authorities. When that poster brought that up, I thought "Aha! That makes Sense." I was having a hard time figuring it out, but that just nails it on the head to me. Let me see if I can find the thread. I found it by using "nursed" as the search word, that's why the url starts on page 3.

    Thanks!

While I think it's okay for others to interpret it however they felt is right for them - Eddie has that ability!

However, it was difficult for MY sign language interpreters in Cincinnati - we were discussing about the meaning of this song.

I was not sure myself at the time - at first I thought it was about a nurse and a patient - perhaps that she found out things about him and she ended up having to report him to the authorities...

But my interpreter disagreed with me and she thought it was about sexual - a relationship between a man and a woman.

I had hoped they didn't play that song in Cincy because of that disagreement! ;)

But now that article posted in that other thread made more sense and I'll use that interpretation for the next interpreter and I'll slap his/her face if s/he disagrees with me!

    :D;)

It's MY show, so USE my interpretations, NOT yours! And you get PAID to sign for me... so there, pfftt! :p;):D

WOW. I am adopted and never thought of it that way but reading the lines w/that theory I can totally see it. Cool interpretation. I like it!
