Pearl Jam spent months touring on “Ten” before its debut album finally took off. But in March 1992, the band’s singles were garnering massive airplay on radio and MTV. Pearl Jam was just days away from playing Saturday Night Live.” When it strolled into Cleveland for a makeup show at Peabody’s DownUnder, a venue with a capacity in the few hundreds.
It’s the kind of intimate concert that’s hard to believe ever happened. What’s even more unbelievable is that the members of Pearl Jam played a charity basketball game at a local high school the day before. Months away from “Jeremy” becoming the biggest video on MTV, Pearl Jam was still very much playing the role of a modest Seattle rock band, and doing it right here in Cleveland.
