Soon Forget...

Am I the only one who thinks that this is one of the the greatest PJ songs ever?

Sorry is the fool who trades his soul for a corvette.
Thinks he'll get the girl he'll only get the mechanic.
What's missing?
He's living a day he'll soon forget.

That's one more time around.
The sun is going down.
The moon is out but he's drunk and shouting.
Putting people down.
He's pissing.
He's living a day he'll soon forget.

Counts his money every morning.
The only thing that keeps him horny.
Locked in a giant house that's alarming.
The townsfolk they all laugh.

Sorry is the fool who trades his love for hi-rise rent.
Seem the more you make equals the loneliness you get.
And it's fitting.
He's barley living a day he'll soon forget.

That's one more time around and there is not a sound.
He's lying dead clutching Benjamins. Never put the money down.
He's stiffening.
We're all whistling a man we'll soon forget.

  • i believe so...

but it does have some powerful lyrics

    we know how ed feels
Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl...
  • ... but this is a great song. and i know that i've listened to it about six and one half million times. its a change from the rest of the album, but fits so well. and i love that in the two live performance recordings i have of the the song, ed fucks up the lyrics. brilliant.
I want to breathe/Follow the scene/I want to taste/Everyone I see/I want to run when I'm up high/I want to run into the sea/I only want life.../to be.../I just want to be.../I will feel alive.../as long as I am free.

Well, I wouldnt say best Pj song, but I really like this one!
    Beautiful melody, direct lyrics.
    Yeah, I love this song.

y esclavo de lo que habla.
  • This song is definitely one of my faves!
Ed has teased us a lot with his uke being warmed up on tour, but I didn't get to hear it lol

It's such a beautiful, simple song.

    And very catchy!

  • It's my favourite of off Binaural and I would love to hear it live, even with Ed's screw ups

Soon Forget is a darling of a song....funny in it's sadness and very telling.

And it's sung to the tune of a uke...now that's too precious!

Yeah it's a great song, the first 2 lines alone have more lyrical meaning than most songwriters achieve in a whole career. Got to clap along on the wrong beat in 2003, but didn't hear it this time around.
Amazing how many ukeleleleleleleleleles have been sold on the back of this one song !!

I don't know... it's alright, I guess... but there's something about a millionaire singing about greedy millionaires that seems almost... gee, I don't know... contradictory somehow. :)

That's a bit harsh, the song is no so much about how rich the dude was, more about how being obsessed with money is not healthy. Ed and the boys are hardly gouging misers.

Wouldn't be a PJ concert if Ed didn't fuck something up, but I just love that. Keeps it real !!

I thought the same thing upon first listening to the song, but having money is not what is at question in the song, it's being ruled by money and letting it control your life that is at question
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
  • This song is incredibly raw and catchy. Great voice inflection, and it feels as if the uke is playing right in your ear. One of my favs.

I'm totally with you here. For me, if we talk about Binaural, we talk about Soon Forget..
Sure, love other songs from this album also, but Soon Forget is my favorite. When I first heard it, I just pressed the replay button and listened to it several times...
...don't know why I fell in love so much with this song...
    ...maybe because of its message...
Even now I don't understand how big, reach and powerful people just simply don't get the the things that really matters in our lives...
I mean...life is short, we won't live forever.
Is money really all that we need?
Don't think so, and this song says exactly that.
and sometimes I wondering...if suddenly happens, that I have a lot of money...(hope not)
would I be so different...would I really begin living life that I'll Soon forget?
    Actually, I don't think so.
Some people just don't change. Never.
    Cause...our money...our fortune.
    is in our hearts.
    And...wait a minute...just think...
...if you are good person..with brave unselfishly heart...you are already rich.
and that makes you living the unforgotten day...
    I just want to scream...
    ...hello!!!
My god its been six years...
    never dreamed...
    ...you'd return.

Heard Ed dedicate it to Paul Allen in '00 at the Rose Garden. Allen is Gates' partner but one thing for sure it was the last time they played the Rose Garden. Ed played it again this year at the Schnitzer but without the dedication.

I love it too by the way!!!
