Whisper Through a Megaphone

From "Nothing as it Seems" off Binaural:

This line has always stood out to me for some reason, and it wasn't until recently that I figured out why.

So I thought about it. Okay, a whisper is speaking quietly, and a megaphone amplifies sound. A whisper going through a megaphone changes a previously quiet statement, and amplifies it.

I have this very bad luck when it comes to voicing an opinion, telling jokes, and even sometimes just having a discussion. Something I say is drastically blown out of proportion, focused in on, and the situation takes a huge turn for the worst.

I'm cursed with what I've come to known as the "Whisper through a megaphone" affect.

Something seemingly minor and inconsequential takes on a power and momentum unintended and out of the control of the speaker.
A scratching voice all alone...
