parachutes about band?

so last night the lyrics to parachutes were stuck in my head, and all of the sudden i thought, "i don't think this is about a woman at all! i think it's about the band!!" think about how ed uses "love" in so many of his lyrics... so much more than just a romantic kind of love. and lately in several interviews he's been saying how he was sort of languishing and lost and not knowing what to do with himself when he got that demo tape and wrote the lyrics to it... so he "would have fallen from the sky till [stone, jeff, and mike], but parachutes have opened now."

honestly!! "and when we're dead we would have had it all," really hearkens back to a lot of what he's said about how satisfied he and the band felt with all the directions they've taken. "i don't want to know your past, but together share the dawn," i don't think is literally "i don't want to know what has happened to you," but instead, "hey, guys, let's put the past behind us and keeping moving forward," again a sentiment he's expressed in interviews.

holy crap. the more i write about it the more i think this is really what the song is about. can you imagine what a different life they would have had had they not found this love with each other???

okay, shoot me down. :)

I'm not willing to buy this interpretation yet ... but I'll admit it has crossed my mind.

I think it's because I've been listening to a lot of the 2000 boots, from the 10-year anniversary tour. Ed gets wistful.

In Las Vegas he says something to the affect about how, sitting down immediately and recording that first burst of lyrics over Stone's demo tape changed the rest of his life, etc etc.

"Would have fallen from the sky 'till you ...." -- that's the lyric that played in my head when he said that.

I was just thinking..Ed did say when it came to the lyrics about half of them had forms of references to Johnny Ramone. Think about it and go reread the lyrics with the death of johnny coming to mind..it makes sense..then again just a theory. :)
