Pearl Jam NCAA Final Board -- Official Rules and Sign-Up

Edit: Items accepted for the pool are OFFICIAL boots, high-quality DVD's, posters, or other items of equal value. If submitting a boot, it doesn't have to be new/sealed, but it must be in its original case. No burned CDs!

A lot of people have asked for this, and since the Super Bowl board was so successful (and lots of fun!), I've decided to make a board for the NCAA Final.

Here's the run-down:

This game is an NCAA Final board (or pool, whatever you want to call it). The board is essentially a grid of numbers from 0-9. Each person who enters will receive a "TEAM A" number and a "TEAM B" number (for example, "TEAM A" 7, "TEAM B" 2). (Since we won't know the actual teams until the field is whittled down to the final 2, we'll just call them Team A and Team B for now). If the final score for each team ends in your numbers (for example, "TEAM A" 47- "TEAM B" 42, or "TEAM B" 62-"TEAM A" 57, etc.), then you are the winner of the board.

To make this a Pearl Jam board, the cost of playing will not be money, but rather a Pearl Jam 2000 or 2003 official bootleg. So, if you are the winner, every other participant will have to send you the Pearl Jam bootleg they pledge in this thread.

Here are the official, detailed rules for the game:

1. You must be 21 or over to play!

2. You must have more than 50 posts as of 3/17/08 to enter. That ensures that you have at least made some sort of contribution to the board and are not just registering for the sake of participating.

3. I am going to limit the game to the first 25 participants who sign up and pledge an item. If we don't have 25 participants by the deadline, then there will have to be a few blank spots on the board; if those blank spots are the final numbers in the game, then we will revert to the winning square from the end of the first half. Each participant will have 4 spots on the board (100 total squares / 25 participants = 4 spots per person).

4. Numbers for the board will be chosen at random. Basically, I will put every participant's name in a hat, once for each entry per participant (so in the above scenario, each person's name would go in four times). Then, I will go along the board and pull out names one by one, and fill out the board as I go along. After doing this, I will put the numbers 0-9 in a hat and will pull them at random to fill out each row for the score. This is the best way I can think of to do this; if anyone has a different suggestion, let me know.

5. You MUST pledge an OFFICIAL PJ bootleg when you sign up. That means no burned copies; I want to make this worthwhile for us collectors! If you don't have any OFFICIAL PJ boots, you can offer something of equal or greater value (a poster, etc.), and we can collectively decide whether to let you in or not.

Once somebody has pledged a specific boot, please do not repeat the same show. I would prefer that whoever wins gets a variety of different boots, not a number of the same ones.

6. If you enter, you MUST pay up, provided that you lose. There's no way I can enforce this except to promise to slander your name all over this board and make sure nobody ever trades with you if you don't follow through, but I have enough faith in PJ fans to not even have to think about that. In addition, I will have your mailing address, as indicated below:

7. Before the board is created, each participant must send me his/her address. This will be the address that I will pass on via PM to every other participant in the case that you win; you may NOT change this address at a later time. If you do not win, please be committed to sending the boot you pledge to the winner within a week after the game ends.

8. Sign-ups for the game will end on Wednesday, April 2, or when 25 people sign up (whichever happens first). That will give me a few days to make the board and find a place to host it for everyone to see. (The NCAA Final is on April 7th).

If anyone has any problems with these rules, or anything that's need to be added, please let me know.

As participants sign-up, I will add to this list. Please indicate the item you are going to submit for the pool when you sign-up, otherwise your sign-up is not official/valid.

Why does it have to be a 2000 or 2003 bootleg?

Those are the only official, physical bootlegs. 2005/06 bootlegs were not distributed in CD format (only digitally).

Fair enough. If you ever decide to change your mind, I'll throw my Toronto '05 files into the pot. That's all I have to offer besides my old Pearl Jam CDs and tapes.

Okay, I'm going to make an executive decision here:

I LOVE DVD's, and I don't have nearly enough in my collection. Thus, I am going to allow DVD's to be submitted as long as they are of a very high-quality...for now.

However, if this doesn't fly with the rest of you, I can be persuaded to change my mind. What are your collective thoughts about allowing DVD's into the pool? Convince me either way; I'll make a final decision in the next two days.

    Ofthegirl99, I'll remove you from the list...for now. :(

Also, I've been thinking of changing my Seattle 3-disc official boot for a promo 15x24 silkscreen Klausen Immagine in Cornice poster. The only problem is that it is NOT in mint condition (probably would grade Very Good). There's a picture here: http://www.expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/68185

Which would you guys prefer -- the less-than-mint poster or the CD?

I would prefer the poster, myself. Just because it is different. I loved the way the superbowl worked out having a little of everything, so I vote for that. Your call though...

    Thanks again....:)

Thanks for allowing the dvds, I appreciate it.

If DVD's are in, can I just burn someone a copy of my Showbox DVD? If so then I would be willing to play.

I think it should be if there is an official DVD, then the original should be offered. For shows where there is no official, then it will have to be a burned.

I agree with you, walkunafraid. I like the idea of having DVDs.

I will check my boots tonight to see which one I will offer.

Hmmmm......I see your point......but I also think that some people are offering more than others, actual money was used in purchasing 2000 or 2003 boots, even though they can be downloaded now, the fun and excitement is winning or losing something of value (Unless you actually have to purchase these audience DVD's somewhere)..... I give up my original Showbox and someone else just hits record on Toast, doesnt seem fair to me......anyway, I dont want to ruin anyones fun so carry on :)

I wouldn't complain about getting good quality DVD's boots. Personally, I'd be happy with anything PJ related but I understand how some people might feel that not everyone is risking an "equal" item since the DVD's would be burned copies while burned auido boots are not accepted.

I did like how the Super Bowl board had a mixed bag of goodies for the winner. Ha, even a bag was part of what was up for grabs.

With that said, I'll offer up Cardiff Wales (#9) 6/6/2000) this time around.

edited! 4 spots down, 21 to go.

Oh, and I decided to allow DVD's for sure. If the DVD was released officially, then it should be the original copy. If not, then it should be a VERY high quality DVD that has been burned.

Sorry for anyone disappointed in that rule...just seems to open the game to more people, and I sense that *most* on here wouldn't mind getting a DVD instead of an official boot from a few people.

Each participant will have 4 spots on the board (100 total squares / 25 participants = 4 spots per person).

    4. Numbers for the board will be chosen at random. Then, I will go along the board and pull out names one by one, and fill out the board as I go along. This is the best way I can think of to do this; if anyone has a different suggestion, let me know.
