Not sure why the links aren’t embedding but they work.  A lot of honorable mentions. Fleet Foxes “Shore” was good.   Folklore was good. Reunions was decent.  I didnt dig Fiona’s album at all though.

I honestly spent a lot of time listening to older stuff. Discovering new things from years ago.  My top 5 is set.

Can’t narrow it down to ten, but I’ll post it soon. I definitely know my favorite album, but the other 20 or so fluctuate

Lot of great records put out this year. Such a shame that the tours behind so many of these have been postponed or outright cancelled.

    1. Gigaton - Pearl Jam
    2. Wildflowers and All the Rest - Tom Petty
    3. Straight Songs of Sorrow - Mark Lanegan
    4. Letter to You - Bruce Springsteen
    5. Love is the King - Jeff Tweedy
    6. Imploding the Mirage - The Killers
    7. Random Desire - Greg Dulli
    8. Local Honey - Brian Fallon
    9. Punisher - Phoebe Bridgers
    10. Serpentine Prison - Matt Berninger

Honorable mentions to Earth by Ed O'Brien, Waterfall 2 by My Morning Jacket, Homegrown by Neil Young and the Summerteeth box set by Wilco. Little Bastards by The Kills is also worth mentioning, even though it just came out Friday.

EPs by Kurt Vile, Avett Brothers and Black Phoebe are also solid.

1-5 are in order, 6-7 are both in the top 10 but might not be in that exact position, the other three could've been swapped out with My Morning Jacket/The Waterfall II, Paul Weller/On Sunset, Bruce Springsteen/Letter to You and Gord Downie/Away is Mine. I'm honestly not sure I like Gord's album, but the fact it exists is a miracle.

Did not know the Futurebirds had a new one.  Good band.  Hung out with them in Austin once upon a time.
  • Great list, above. Love Futurebirds and love the newest record. Definitely went for it a couple of times, with the songs more polished than ever. Also, I should have put Local H on my list. That band can do no wrong.

Damn, i've listened to so much music this year but don't think i've listened to enough new music to compile a top 5 never mind top 20!
The three albums from this year i've loved and played the most are:
    1. Pluralone - I Don't Feel Well
    2. PJ - Gigaton
    3. Brian Fallon - Local Honey
  • tbergstbergs Posts: 9,810
All this does is remind me I'm old. I don't really listen to "new" music, but I've definetely listened to a lot of music I've never heard before in the past year. Unfortunately I'm usually about 3 - 5 years behind these days when it comes to new stuff unless it's one of my favorite bands releasing a new album, which this year were PJ and Deftones. Loved both albums more than anything they've put out in the last 10 years so it was a good year.

Deftones are metal album of the year for me and PJ is rock album.

I will listen to some of the other stuff mentioned in this thread though. I respect Taylor Swift, but cannot get in to her music.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I would suggest one of these newer records. They aren't big pop like the rest of her catalog.

Mark Lanegan - Straight Songs of Sorrow
    Brian Fallon - Local Honey
    Bob Mould - Blue Hearts
Jeff Tweedy - Love Is The King
    John Frusciante - Maya

No doubt!   Oodles of solid releases, and hopefully more finished cooking and ready to pull out of the COVID oven. Also...goes w/o saying... hope the artists are able to make a fair living off their '20 album releases and until they're able to properly tour them.
