If you love this trilogy, yes spend another 100 bucks. Blu rays were great, but this is magical. I felt more immersed in the action than ever before, like I was there, in the battles.
This version has been updated to some extent, obviously to 4k, but Peter Jackson said they improved some effects with the last 20 years of better tech. So less haze than before. Color and detail are breathtaking. You can see every hair, stray thread on their cloaks, scratch in their armor. The craftsmanship into every costume and creature is noticeably better. I was mesmerized by the armor and the details I never really noticed or appreciated to the extent 4k has revealed.
The grit of the battles and creatures is much more apparent. The fatigue, expressions, even the digital creatures are just better.
So prancing pony up that c note Tolkien geeks!
