love this song, i can listen to it for many minutes (considering it's only a minute long), but who's Lukin?

P.S.: I should open a bar named Lukin's in the future.

  • Matt Lukin, uhh, I don't honestly know enough about him, apart from this info from Wikipedia...
Matt Lukin was a founding member and bassist for The Melvins. He recorded with the Melvins on the following - Mangeled Demos, Six Songs (later 10 Songs, later 26 songs)and Gluey Porch Treatments. In 1988 The Melvins "broke up" with Buzz moving to San Francisco, Dale staying in Aberdeen to help with the bands Nirvana and Really Soon. Matt was left behind and replaced by Lorax when Dale later joined Buzz in California. Matt Lukin stayed in Washington to form the band Mudhoney. Lukin left Mudhoney in June 1999. He briefly rejoined Mudhoney from December 2000 to January 2001 for a short tour. Matt Lukin is featured in a home video shot on Krist Novoselic's Super 8 camera -- the video includes Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and others (Matt Lukin included). Matt Lukin now works as a carpenter in the Seattle area.

The song "Lukin" by Pearl Jam was named after Matt Lukin.

Matt married a Dutch woman, Manon, whom he met in the Tivoli Club in Utrecht, The Netherlands. They have been together in Seattle ever since. Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder stated this before dedicating "Lukin" to the couple during Pearl Jam's performance on 29 August 2006 in De Gelredome, Arnhem. What he said can be heard on the Pearl Jam official bootleg of that same date on the song "Lukin."

Hope that's some kind of help LOL But yeah, the song's quite strange, if it is about him.. lol

lukin specifically is i believe either the bass player or drummer from the band mudhoney..

the song is about a reaaally fucked up story. i read it in a magazine during an interview with ed..he gives the whoooooole story. but some phsycho thought eddie was jesus or something like that, but believed he was the father of her son? or something of her child or some fucked up thing... and she would stalk him and his wife...sent death letters in the mail..and really creeped him out. appearnelty one time the person actually tried to break into his home, and crashed a car into his house or something..do not quote me exactly but ed explains it alll...i'll try to find the interview..but this person did some craaaaazy shit. last line of the song = last i heard the freak was purchasing a fucking gun.

There's really no interpretation needed for the song (once you know what the lyrics are). It's just a self-explanatory true story, screamed as incoherently as possible in a one-minute burst. :D

i never took the time to look up the lyrics but i will now. The only words i could actually make out is something about a supermarket.
"Makes much more sense to live in the present tense." Ed Ved

"No one cares about climbing stairs, Nothing at the top no more." Chris Cornell
