Harris is the easy one because of the cash and infrastructure.  She inherits it.  The question would be whether any other Ds put themselves in the mix, forcing a split vote at the convention.

Yeah....in the maga world, you are not allowed to even question Trump. Former President Donald Trump amplified posts on social media calling for a televised military tribunal for former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney and the jailing of top elected officials, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“ELIZABETH LYNNE CHENEY IS GUILTY OF TREASON,” one post created by another user that Trump amplified on his social media website Truth Social on Sunday reads. “RETRUTH IF YOU WANT TELEVISED MILITARY TRIBUNALS.”

Cheney responded on X, “Donald - This is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a stable adult—and are not fit for office.”

A separate post Trump amplified on Truth Social Sunday includes photos of 15 former and current elected officials and says, “THEY SHOULD BE GOING TO JAIL ON MONDAY NOT STEVE BANNON!”

In addition to Biden and Harris, the post includes photos of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Vice President Mike Pence and members of the House select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

When reached for comment, a Trump campaign spokesperson did not address Trump’s posts but instead pointed to what she described as the January 6 committee’s “political persecution” of the former president.

Trump, who has been convicted of 34 felony counts and faces an additional 54 charges in three other cases, has long suggested he would try to prosecute his political opponents if he’s elected to a second term.

His suggestions of potentially going after political opponents by weaponizing the Justice Department began more than a year ago, when he was first indicted. Trump has said he would appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Biden and his family if he wins a second term and has argued several times he believes he is justified in doing so because Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to oversee criminal investigations that implicate Trump.

Not coincidentally, the ones most offended by pointing out the hypocrisy on both sides typically stand firmly on one side or the other. Pointing the finger is much easier to stomach than honest critique, apparently. I'll leave you to phone call gate and bandage discussion, but before I do, one question. Why does it bother you when a republican changes their stance for their own gain, but not when a democrat does the same? No, he’s not. Something interesting happened starting in 2015. Democrats were no longer allowed to criticize anything their party is doing, has done, or ever will do, “because Trump”. I have experienced this phenomenon several times myself on this forum. 

Just because the Nelson Muntz of American politics rose to the highest office in the land, and set the bar so disgustingly low, no democrat shall ever be called to account ever again. 

We tell everyone that we have higher standards, yet we aren’t allowed to hold anyone to them “cuz trump”. It’s incredibly frustrating to those that would nit only like to rid the world of trump-like politics, but to go back to adult-like standards in politics, but no, anytime you mildly suggest a democrat did something unbecoming, you are labelled a magat, a bigot, a misogynist (in the Hillary era), or worse, just plain stupid/unaware. 

Some of us like to discuss their favourite steak even when the main course is hot dogs.

I don't see that happening. Harris/Buttigieg or Harris/Newsom would be my guess.

.I suppose it could.  But she could simply change her address to DC and remove that risk.  That's what Cheney did in 2000 when his previous address was in Texas.  It's a quirk but it brings up a moderate risk.  Considering Harris is the VP, her previous representation of CA in the senate doesn't matter.  Her address is probably DC now, simply for tax reasons.

I agree. Trump is a fucking horrific candidate--historically bad....we just need someone who can articulate that clearly and enthusiastically. Joe can't do that anymore. 

Putting Harris up there....especially contrasting it with the dumb Vance pick and his crazy views on abortion.....it is go time.

Harris/Shapiro would be great!  A black woman and a Jew.  They keep Buttigieg (spelling?) in a prominent position we’re covering a bunch of people who’ve been discriminated against their whole lives.  The only people they won’t appeal to is cult MAGA and those who are total and complete racists.  I’m praying to God that our country can show less than 40% are as horrendous as we think.

Biden looked awful yesterday.  But Trump isn’t looking much better.  IMO he aged about ten years.  I haven’t really seen him happy since the shooting.  Imagine thinking the entire country (or at least R) love you, then all of a sudden some young republican man from a MAGA home try’s to kill you, and then you find out another country wants you dead, it’s exactly like the Emperor’s New Clothes.

He’s depressed because he can’t believe not everyone loves him and that one person actually hated him so much that they tried to kill him. His whole reasoning behind why he exists was shattered. Wonder if Ivanka Darlink and Jared Dear Boy even bothered to check in. Haven’t heard or seen much of them lately. Wonder if they’ll be up on that hideous display stage tonight?

I wouldn’t be happy either knowing how badly my security detail screwed up and almost cost me my life either.

I remember you said the other day both the shooter’s parents are strong republicans. I’m curious if you actually know that, or just assuming?
I read one parent was registered democrat and the other libertarian. I haven’t seen any reports that he came from a MAGA/trump family. And he had googled locations of the DNC, so possibly not just targeting Trump.

The father of 20-year-old would-be Donald Trump assassin Thomas Crooks was previously identified by the former president’s campaign as one of the voters in his area most likely to respond favorably to pro-gun messaging.

That’s according to confidential data obtained by Britain’s Channel 4 News, which said 53-year-old Matthew Crooks—who legally purchased the AR-15 rifle used by his son to fire at Trump as he spoke at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally on Saturday—was covertly profiled by the Trump team in 2016 as “a strong Republican, likely gun owner and ‘hunter.’”

The campaign’s private database analyzed 6.7 million people in the Keystone State, a crucial battleground in the race for president, listing Matthew Crooks, a registered Libertarian, as among the top 20 prospects of 19,000 residents in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park, Channel 4 reported. He scored highly “across a range of gun-related [data] models,” according to the outlet, and was flagged by the Trump team as a voter “who could be susceptible to political messages about gun-rights.”

Crooks’ mother, a Democrat, was also singled out by Trump’s campaign as a likely gun owner who was potentially receptive to such messaging.

Overall, the Trump campaign ranked roughly 50 million individuals in 10 swing states, using the firearms-specific data models, according to Channel 4, which called the data-ming program “secretive.”

Crooks, a registered Republican who was not an attendee at Saturday’s rally, squeezed off at least eight shots from a nearby rooftop, clipping Trump in the ear. Trump was not seriously wounded, but one spectator was killed and two others critically injured. FBI officials said they were unsure if Crooks’ father had given his son permission to use the firearm, or if he had taken it without the older man’s knowledge.

The family is said to be cooperating with authorities. Shortly after he opened fire, Crooks was shot dead by Secret Service snipers.

Matthew Crooks, a registered Libertarian, in 2013 bought the gun used in Saturday afternoon’s assassination attempt, a person familiar with the investigation told The Washington Post. Crooks purchased 50 rounds of 5.56 ammunition earlier on Saturday, authorities said. A former member of a shooting club in Clairton, Pennsylvania, a teenage Crooks was rejected by his high school’s rifle club for being a “dangerous” shot, according to one former classmate.

Many questions remain unanswered about the shooting, and experts have slammed the Secret Service for not preventing Crooks from posting up on the building, which the feds say was outside the rally perimeter and the responsibility of local cops.

Reached on Sunday by The Independent, Crooks’ uncle Mark said he had “no idea” what his nephew’s motivations for Saturday’s shooting might have been.
