I don't really think it needs to be someone who sounds like they're doing a Cornell imitation, but it is important that they can capture the same emotional output and be able to hit the notes, if they're going to be playing Soundgarden songs. If the singer doesn't have a somewhat similar emotional impact, then I won't really be interested. It's the reason why I don't listen to new AiC all that much. Singer sounds good, but is missing that reckless and resigned desperation that you would hear in Layne's voice. Just my opinion.

Ian doens't try to sound like CC. He just has a similar vocal range, and I think what puts him over the top over other choices is that he wouldn't just be a karaoke replacement-he could sing the old tunes well but also he writes similarly-he has collaborated with Alain Johannes, for one.

There's a couple of singers from the King Ultramega project that'd be cool, one of them being William DuVall of AIC, if they're not touring he'd be a great choice.  Taylor Momsen has always done a very good job when performing with them as well.  CC's daughters can sing as well but that'd be a ton of pressure which would unfair to them.
