Can't Keep and In My Tree

I feel these songs are very alike, not in vibe maybe but certainly in terms of Riff/Tempo.What I find intriguing is that In My Tree is virtually worshipped by many on the board whereas Can't Keep seems relatively unloved?!
Interestingly I much prefer Can't Keep as a complete song, but In My Tree apart from Jacks drumming I am fairly indifferent to.I wonder what others think although I am aware that I will be somewhat outnumbered by the 'In My Treehuggers'!!

I definitely love In My Tree, but i'm all for the Can't Keep love! I really wanted to hear it last year and this year, but no such luck.

Although i got hear the band soundcheck it in full in Verona which was cool! It's such a great album opener.

I'll take part in any appreciation for this song!

The one song I would looooooove to see them do live. Keep missing it. But wow - that one REALLY floats my boat. Gotta love turning it loud and singing along, no matter how hot the weather!

It's pretty much a perfect song, to me anyway...

In my tree...hmmm...I don't hate it...and I don't give it the love it deserves. And I don't know why...

Completely love both songs! They are quite similar now that you point it out.

Huge fan of both songs, and I can definitely see the similarities.

In My Tree is amazing for the lyrics, drum beat, and ethereal quality (especially in the middle bridge section). Can't Keep is just as powerful lyrically, and I love Jeff's interplay with the pounding drums. It's subtle (and overshadowed by the echoey guitar parts) but it just sounds badass.

...but I love to play the new(er) version of In My Tree on guitar. It's one of my go-to songs when I am jamming around and want to warm up.

    I see what you mean.

I noticed a similar sort of thing with Inside Job and Given to Fly last night as I listened to the second encore of Gorge 1 2006. Riffs are very like each other in places.... Anybody else hear this?

I love Can't Keep and In My Tree btw. Can't Keep kicks ass!

  • The 1st song of an album can often set the tone. Sometimes, introducing possibly their most mellow and spiritual album. The heavier breakerfall, and brain of j with its queit bit suggesting that yeild is a cross between binaural and no code. Can't keep seems to take the band back to no code. I don't know if it holds. There are certainly soft songs like tmy, and even "heavy" songs such as cropduster are relatively soft.

I like both in my tree and can't keep. Can't keep is more calming while in my tree is more comforting. I can't choose between them

In My Tree is amazing, but I've not heard a decent version of it live off all the boots I have.

Try Berlin 96 or Hartford 96 (old version) or MSG 2003 (new version)
