In modern rock, shortly after the year 1996 the death of grunge started and the emergence of Emo and Rap Rock went into effect, now rap rock has faded into oblivion and Emo really hasn't hit that significant popular mainstream pinnacle, of course with the exception of Weezer and Jimmy Eat World. Right now, the world's rock fans are looking for something new/creative/different. On May 2nd Pearl Jam and Tool both release new album's, and on May 9th the Red Hot Chili Peppers release a double album called Stadium Arcadium; could these new releases be the return of creative rock? When listening to Pearl Jam's new single World Wide Suicide, its heavy, catchy, and the song grows on you, but if you listen to the B side of that single, there is a song called unemployable which is also going to be on the new album, the song is unique and it jumps out and grabs you; and are you ready folks… the song is actually a radio friendly Pearl Jam song, which could probably beat Billboard's current modern rock #1 World Wide Suicide if it was released as a single as well. The hype for the new Pearl Jam album has been the most since the release of Pearl Jam's 1998 release "Yield", which went triple platinum. The members of Pearl Jam say it's the best work they have ever done, and personally from the two songs I have heard, there is a possibility that myself, having had pearl jam as my favorite band since I first heard their first album Ten back in 1992, could actually agree with the band in saying that this is defiantly the best work they have done. Many people complain about Eddie Vedder's vocals being too "monotone" and "mumbley", but if you listen to unemployable, his vocals fit with the song so well it creates a sound that is very unique, new, and creative, even new and creative for Pearl Jam. Since Pearl Jam have backed away from the press they have released a couple albums that barley went platinum, those being 2000 Binaural and 2003 Riot Act, which were decent albums, and the songs sound amazing live, but you could tell that Pearl Jam were searching for something new, which is shown in songs such as Binaural's Nothing as it Seems and Riot Acts ½ Full. In a similar situation, Pink Floyd, when they lost Syd Barrett and had to find their new creative force, released some experimental albums that didn't really get anyone's attention, but those albums were building blocks to what would later come, the release of arguably the best rock album of all time, Dark Side Of the Moon. However, Pearl Jam didn't lose any of their members, but they may have been searching for that new sound, and now they are with a new label (J Records) who gives them the ability to be even more creative than Epic was allowing them to be; so maybe just like Pink Floyd, Binaural and Riot Act might be those building blocks, and Pearl Jam's new release could be their Dark Side of the Moon. One thing is for sure, with the release of the first two songs of Pearl Jam's new album, I believe they have found what they are looking for.
So I typed all that to say this: mark my words, the new Pearl Jam album may not reach Dark Side of the Moon Status where people are watching The Wizard Of Oz with it playing in the background, but I do believe its going to be considered a new creative masterpiece. Hear for yourself, download Pearl Jam Unemployable from your favorite P2P file sharing program.
