I've been going over my Binaural like a good girl, before the tour... and was wondering: Ament's words for "Nothing As it Seems" ? clue what's it about?

It's about a homosexual man trying to lead the life of a heterosexual man.
"Tanqueray and Tab, and keep 'em comin'."

It's really my least favorite PJ song. That said, it's a really good song.

How the hell do you read homosexuality into that????????
That song could mean anything. (Home=where one lives.)

    its about downe syndrome

    one uninvited chromosome????

these are some interpretations from TSIS! enjoy.

I have come across a few different interpretations of this song, but what I got out of the song the first time I heard it is what I continue to hold onto. Here it goes...

I believe that the man this song is about has down syndrome. "one uninvited chromosome...a blanket like the ozone" When a person has down syndrome, they have one extra chromosome on the 23 pair, giving them 47 chromosomes instead of 46, like the rest of us. "blanket like the ozone" means that he doesn't have a clear view on the world because of his situation...therefore "it's nothing as it seems". like a child, he thinks that he will be able to accomplish things in his life, but what he doesn't realize is that he won't. those with the disease often die young in life, i believe this reffers to "one way ticket headstone". thanks for hearing me out.

As Ed said at the show here in Dallas, "This song ... it's in relation to everything."

I think it is, everything about life, at least as life is all we have. When I listen to it I imagine everything in life turned down, where you feel like you belong even less, colors are less vivid, things have near no taste, you can't make coherent sentences, you can't think clearly, sounds are muffled and indechipherable.

"Who's kidding, rainy day. A one way ticket headstone" I think is interesting. Life and time only move one direction... forward and thus to an end. Things aren't always bad but they aren't alway good either, and one thing that everyone needs is a place and sense of self.

Well, i belive the song is Jeff Ament's view of Eddie Vedder. Jeff wrote the song and lyrics, and almost every line is relative on his view on what the media prints about his front man and his take on it knowing what he already knows about Eddie, blended into sort of a question, who is Eddie? he is nothing as he seems, at least in print.

    thanks for reading
