Love the Severed Hand. Although I was suprised to hear the opening from the album at Camden 1 (where it sounds like the guitar track is being played backwards) - was it a "backing track" being played or did they do it live somehow? When they played it on SNL there was a totally different intro... I guess it doesn't matter, it still kicks ass.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

Great, great song. The entire album is awesome, and this is one of the best songs on there.
How dark a woe! yet how sublime a hope!
How silently serene a sea of pride!
How daring an ambition! yet how deep--
How fathomless a capacity for love!

I have mild affection for this particular song, rather than love.Whereas MITS,Gone,Come Back,Big Wave and Comatose,I love with a passion!!
(For me Army Reserve is the weakest song on the album, maybe not vocally but musically.Does nothing for me).

I love, love, love severed hand. that and comatose and come back are the three top songs imo. i read someone's interpretation on one of these boards and they were relating it to the war and the country and stuff, but don't you just think it's about being messed up on drugs, or am i being too naive and shallow about that?

At first, this was my favorite song on Avocado. Now its a tie between Life Wasted and Inside Job. Every song on that record is fucking beautiful of course.

Ed said on Letterman that it is about Psychotropics, which as I understand it are for schizophrenics and severly mentally ill folks such as those suffering from bipolar disorder.
Hands down my favorite song on the album!

I see a connection to "Why Go" with the psychiatry theme.

At first listen, this song was immediately my favorite. I just loved the feel of it, and the lyrics. After over a month, I can't say it is still my favorite all of the time, there are just too many good songs on this album. Still, it's usually the one I love the most. I can't wait to hear it live and see what I think then. :)
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."

This song cured my fear of roller coasters...

"Got some kicks wanna take a ride?" I said "YEAH!!"

Whenever I go on a roller coaster now, I just think about this song and everything is ok :D

Great song, sounds a lot like Porch from unplugged though. First time I heard it I was like is this some strage version of Porch? Just the guitar in it. It is like Porch married Insignif. and had a kid.

The whole album is insane, like a Sabu table DDT on Mysterio.

I vote all songs are excellent.

    Hard to Imagine in milwaukee.....please

'Psychotropics' refers to all drugs that affect the mind, including those for recreational purposes.

I'm pretty sure I really like it, but since the concerts are over (for me) I forgot how it goes ;) Man, all of those memorized lyrics were just squeezed out of my brain, and evaporated in the ozone.

    It's on Binaural, right?

    Hahahahaha just kidding ;)
