Red Alert Restart
News September 1 2020

COVID-19 has impacted everyone around the world and we continue to support organizations and advocate for those affected, especially here in the United States. Today we take a moment to shine a spotlight on those in our own industry whose livelihoods have been wiped out by COVID-19. This evening thousands of buildings, iconic structures, and residences will light up in red at 9pm-12am local as the RedAlert rolls across the country.

#RedAlertRESTART is raising awareness to jump-start relief for the live events industry and we're joining the movement for the millions of people in our industry out of work due to COVID-19.

  • Live events employ over 12 million people
  • 96% of companies have cut staff and/or wages
  • 77% of people in the live events industry have lost 100% of their income, including 97% of 1099 workers
  • Live events contribute over $1 trillion to the US economy each year
  • 95% of live events have been cancelled due to COVID-19

Learn more about what you can do by heading over to We Make Events to write your representatives to pass the RESTART Act to help small businesses, to expand PUA for 1099 workers, and to extend benefits for displaced workers.

You can also follow along at RED ALERT LIVE which will stream live from 9pm-1am Eastern time on Facebook and on YouTube. The stream will show buildings lit in red in over 60 cities coast-to-coast and include live interviews with regional directors and their special guests. It begins in New York City and concludes in Los Angeles, two epicenters of live events that have been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
