...the first time you heard the song 'rearviewmirror' and how you reacted? I will NEVER forget the first time i heard it. It must have been around 2000-2001 and i saw a live performance on MTV and was just hooked. I'd heard 'Alive' and 'Evenflow' before and thought they were cool but this song was just something else - the sincerity of the lyrics, the drumming, the energy. I didn't catch the title of the song but i knew i had to hear it again. When I described the song to an older friend and pj fan he thought i was talking about 'go' so i went out and bought Vs.
I'll never forget the second time i heard it when i was skipping through the tracks and finally came to rearviewmirror(track 8) The riff came straight back to me. THAT'S IT!!! After that, Vs very quickly became my favourite album to listen to through my school years even though nobody else listened to the band or had only heard 'Ten' Beleive it or not, Ten was the last album of them all i purchased. I think Vs will always be my favourite for the memories and especially for Rearviewmirror. It's a shame i had to discover it a decade later than most.

First heard PJ "Even Flow" on top of Cypress Mountain in Vancouver - it was a mountain biking race I went to watch with my husband..and it was blasting over the PA system and I was all "duhhhhhhh". It literally stopped me in my tracks and I stood agog on this mountain with the ocean below and this song dancing in the air...
Then later we saw a couple of little bear cubs climb a tree, and then we took off because the mother bear must have been neaby since she sent them up the tree...they were so darned cute!!
dreamer in my dream
we got the guns
i love you,but im..............callin out.........callin out
I'm hoping this next album can at least match it though
I can still remember the first time I heard 'Alive' it was being played for the first time on JJJ (an Australian radio station) and I was blown away!! Have been hooked ever since.
Gawd that was SOOOOOO many years ago......feels like yesterday
...Don't get me wrong, Rearviewmirror is an amazing song, but State of Love and Trust, for me, just one of those songs that, when you first hear it, you notice that you can't help but smile at it's awesomeness.
It State of Love and Trust was a human, I'd gladly be it's slave.

The attitude...the lyrics...the energy...getting away from bullshit. The punk power chords mixed with Mike's noodleing leads...Ed's melodic chorus...the bridge breakdown...the bridge buildup...and the soaring ending that seems to almost spin out of control.
What I'm trying to say is HOLY SHIT! this song is the quintessential Pearl Jam song IMO.
Watch the SNL version...and prepare to get goose bumps!
'this band are incredible'
I still do.
Do you remember nothing stopped us on the field in our day
oh and I don't remember the details of the first time I heard rearviewmirror, but I do recall it made me sit up and pay attention.
